For family days out, there are many places to visit in and around Maidstone. 4 miles south of Maidstone is Leeds Castle, a romantic looking castle which is thought to have been built in 1119 and was once the Royal palace for Edward I of England. Around the castle are attractions such as a maze and a grotto. Also set in the grounds of Leeds Castle is Go Ape, an action-packed day out featuring zip slides 65 feet above the forest floor and 250 metres in length.
