Taylor Wimpey East Anglia careers day set to become an annual event
As a local homebuilder we see ourselves very much as part of the local community
A successful careers event hosted by leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey East Anglia in partnership with local charity St Edmunds Society is set to become an annual event.
Thirty 16 to 19-year-olds from schools and colleges in Norwich spent a day at Taylor Wimpey’s regional headquarters in Etna Road, Bury St Edmunds, in September to find out how to break into the world of house-building.
During the day, Taylor Wimpey staff ran a series of sessions to help the young people with interview skills and help them understand what employers are looking for in their young employees – and plans are now in the pipeline to ensure the event happens again in 2013.
Stacy Dornan, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: "As a local homebuilder we see ourselves very much as part of the local community and our work with St Edmunds Society to help improve the futures of young people in the area is the natural extension of this.
"It’s a win-win situation, as hopefully we’re helping improve the students’ chances of employment – as well as helping to develop the potential housebuilders of the future – so we’re delighted to be making plans to turn this into an annual event."
Taylor Wimpey has also shown its support for St Edmunds Society by hosting the charity’s Sleep Out 2012 event at its NR1 apartment development in Norwich on 8th November.
Norwich Sleep Out was aimed at raising awareness about and funds for the city-based charity, which provides an alternative to mainstream education to help individuals gain practical new skills in the hope of improving their employability.
Taylor Wimpey's national charity partner is Centrepoint, which works with vulnerable 16 to 25-year-olds in London and the North East, and a network of other charities helping young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in other parts of the country, including St Edmunds Society.
A film of the Taylor Wimpey careers day has been made and can be viewed on the St Edmunds Society website http://www.st-eds.org/.
