Emma and Alex welcome their new daughter into the world at Saxon Fields!

With a growing family, Emma Hunter and Alex Maxwell decided to purchase a bigger home and discovered that our Saxon Fields development offered everything they needed – even the perfect place to welcome their new daughter Ruby into the world earlier this year!

Alex, Emma, Madeline and baby Ruby are settling into their new home at Saxon Fields and are pictured with our Sales Executices Cheryl (left) and Michele.

The couple, along with their three‑year‑old daughter Madeline, moved into their four‑bedroom detached ‘Kentdale’ housetype after relocating from a two‑bedroom apartment in Welwyn Garden City, approximately 24 miles away.

Once the family had settled into their home, Emma and Alex then unexpectedly gave birth to their second daughter Ruby in February 2016 – in the bathroom of their new house!

“We decided to move house because, at the time we had Madeline, we wanted more room and a garden for her to play in,” says Emma (26). “There weren’t many properties in Welwyn Garden that suited our needs, so we decided to move a bit further afield to find the right property, and it’s a good job we did!

“It wasn’t our plan for Ruby to be born at home, but she arrived so quickly she was delivered in the bath. It helps give more meaning to the house – we’ll definitely never forget it!”

The pair chose the ‘Kentdale’ as it offered the whole family everything they needed.

“We decided to go for this housetype as it’s double fronted and all of the bedrooms are a really good size – normally there’s a ‘box’ room but we don’t have that in this house.

“It’s ideal as we’ve got Madeline and now Ruby, plus Alex also has two other children who live in Stevenage, so while they don’t live with us they do come to visit regularly so we have enough space for everyone.

“The house also has a really big kitchen/dining room which we never had in our previous property. For the price we paid we’d never have got anything like this where we were living before.”

The location of Saxon Fields offered the family the perfect place to start their new lives.

“We got a good feel for the area as soon as we visited, as we hadn’t been here before we started house‑hunting,” explains Emma. “We took a gamble as we liked the house and we love it here.

“The whole area is perfect for families – there are schools nearby and the town is continually growing, with new shops and parks being built, which is ideal for Madeline and Ruby.

“There’s also a huge retail park nearby that has everything we need, so the location of our new home is very handy as we don’t have to travel too far for amenities.

“It’s also really easy and convenient for Alex to travel to work as well, as he’s self‑employed and runs his own cleaning company, so it was important we didn’t move too far away but he can just travel on the A1.

“The team at Taylor Wimpey couldn’t do enough for us, they were brilliant,” adds Emma. “Cheryl and Michele the Sales Executives have been so friendly and I still pop in to see them now and again with the children, as they’ve been there to see the girls growing up.

“While we were home‑hunting we went to look around other showhomes as well but didn’t get a good feeling from them, whereas we feel very settled here now and I don’t think we’ll be moving for a long time.”

Expedition to help build school for children in Kenya is given a boost

We at Taylor Wimpey North Thames, along with our colleagues at Taylor Wimpey South Midlands have teamed up to sponsor a volunteer taking part in an expedition next year to continue building a new school for children in Kenya.

Our Sales Executives Cherly (left) and Jeanette pictured with Luke Newman ahed of his expedition to Kenya.

We have donated £500 to Luke Newman (35) who is travelling with his father Steve and son Reece in May 2017 to volunteer with African Adventures, the UK’s leading volunteer travel organisation, and Derby County Community Trust.

“This is the fourth time I will volunteer in Kenya with African Adventures, and I’ll be travelling with my dad and son along with around 50 other volunteers,” explains Luke.

“I decided to start doing this after seeing footage on TV from Children in Need and Comic Relief showing the deprived areas and poor conditions people live in, so I really wanted to help out.”

Luke, Steve and Reece will travel from their hometown of Biggleswade to spend two weeks in Kenya.

“We’re going there to help continue building work at St. Trizah School in Nakuru, which has been under development for the past three years,” says Luke. “The school now has eight classrooms, a kitchen and an office, so as part of next year’s trip we’ll be helping to build more classrooms and hopefully a dormitory.

“This will be extremely important, as approximately a fifth of the 450 pupils have to live at the school for various reasons, in some cases because they’ve lost their family, so this is a massive development.”

Our donation has been very welcomed by Luke, as it helps cover some of the costs of the trip.

“It costs £2,500 per person to travel, so this £500 donation will go a long way towards helping us reach our target as already it’s a fifth of the amount needed for one of us, which takes a lot of the burden off our shoulders,” Luke continues.

“With Taylor Wimpey being a housebuilder in the UK it’s great for them to support us so we can help build schools and communities over 4,000 miles away in Africa.”

The family will be hosting various fundraising events over the coming months to help generate the remainder of the money needed.

The trips to Kenya have had a big impact on Luke and his family.

He concludes: “This expedition is an amazing thing to do – it’s the sixth time my dad has been to Kenya and for Reece, who’s 17 years old, it’ll be his first experience.

“We’re over the moon that Taylor Wimpey have kindly offered to help – I will be wearing a t-shirt in Kenya with their logo on to show that I’m proudly sponsored by Taylor Wimpey. The donation will make a huge difference to me and my family and we’re very grateful.”

Gareth Jacob, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Midlands, says: “As a responsible housebuilder, it’s important to us that we can help not only the communities where we build our new homes, but also help local people with charitable activities both at home and abroad – and the Newmans’ expedition is an extremely worthy cause.”

Christine Scarborough, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey North Thames, adds: “It’s wonderful that Luke, Steve and Reece are volunteering to help make a difference in developing countries and we’re delighted to lend our support – we’d like to wish them the best of luck with the expedition!”
