Proud to leave a lasting legacy in Sherford
Volunteers from Sherford Vale School near Plymouth have been getting green-fingered by planting 150 daffodil bulbs in front of the school reception. The bulbs were donated by our Exeter team as part of Taylor Wimpey's national Proud campaign to show the our commitment and pride in leaving a lasting legacy in the communities in which we build.
The planting took place on Thursday 8th November 2018 and the bulbs are set to grow into a bright, floral tribute to the local area. As well as pupils and staff from the school, members of the Sherford team also joined in with the planting.
Helen Tipping, Headteacher at Sherford Vale School said: “It’s great to see a company like Taylor Wimpey think about the wider community while they are building in the local area, and leave something beautiful behind that will last for years to come. We all loved getting to work with our spades and can’t wait to see the results.”
Couple makes a fresh start at Sherford thanks to Taylor Wimpey
After suffering a tragic family loss, Marilyn and Michael Ferriday decided it was time for a fresh start and found themselves at Taylor Wimpey’s Sherford development in Plymouth. With help from Lauren the Sales Executive, the Ferriday’s move to Sherford was a memorable experience that the couple were eager to share.
Using the Part Exchange scheme Marilyn and Michael were able to secure a brand new four bedroom home at Sherford, and haven’t looked back since as Michael confirms: “We lost our son two years ago, and had been living in our last home for a long time which just became too difficult. We needed to move away; we thought about either moving to the Moors or by the sea, and then we stumbled across Sherford. It hadn’t crossed our minds to buy a new build property, but when visiting Sherford Lauren saw that my wife was upset, and asked if she could show us around the development, she was amazing from start to finish. Both myself and Marilyn fell in love with the house straight away, Marilyn walked in and that was it - we knew we’d found our dream home. It was cheaper than what we’d been looking at, yet the quality and size of the house was second to none.
“Even better, the customer service was exceptional and Taylor Wimpey made everything so easy. I would like to thank everyone involved because they made it so simple when it could’ve been really stressful. The whole team went above and beyond, for example when we moved in it was snowing and they’d put a beautiful big purple bow on the front door. We are so grateful to everyone at Taylor Wimpey, and without them this move would not have been possible.”
Aside from the Taylor Wimpey sales team, Michael and Marilyn’s move was also made possible through Taylor Wimpey’s Part Exchange scheme. Customers using Part Exchange can avoid the stress of putting their existing home on the market as Taylor Wimpey will act as the buyer for their current property. Taylor Wimpey will help to manage the buying, selling and moving process and pay any estate agent fees. This made moving house much easier as Marilyn confirms: “Part Exchange was brilliant, it was incredibly helpful having Taylor Wimpey manage and oversee the process. The Sales Executives would ring us with updates to keep us in the loop, so we always knew what was going on without the stress of trying to sort it ourselves.”
The pair moved into their new home two and a half months ago, and have been truly loving life as Marilyn confirms: “I genuinely adore everything about my home, from the look of the property to the lovely hallway - it’s just perfect. The balcony in the bedroom has been great; if it’s sunny we sit out and have a drink, or invite friends over for a BBQ - I always have friends over because I’m so proud of the house, I love showing it off. I also have the most amazing windows in my bedroom that let all the light in. The location is ideal too, we’re only two minutes from all the shops and Michael actually has two different routes to get to work now so he can beat the morning rush. I honestly can’t thank Taylor Wimpey enough, I’m so happy. This is the best thing we’ve done.”
First Sherford residents are living the dream
On the 22nd of November, Chloe Bradley and Josh Ackland became the first residents on their street at Sherford; a brand new development on the outskirts of Plymouth. Since moving into their three bedroom home, the couple have been joined by several other families and are enjoying life in this ever growing community at Sherford.
Previously based in a rented flat in Plympton, Chloe and Josh were looking to upsize, but they never imagined that a three storey townhouse would be within their reach, as Chloe confirms: “I can’t believe that we’ve gone from renting a flat to living in a three storey townhouse, we still look around and think is this our home? It didn’t feel real at first, we’d always liked the idea of a new build but we didn’t think we’d be able to get a home like this, it’s just incredible. ”
“There are so many gorgeous features to the property. We have the whole of the top floor as our bedroom and en-suite, and there are no box rooms - all the bedrooms are huge. One of my favourite spots is the lounge, it’s so warm because the sun beams in everyday. We never thought that this would be the kind of house that we’d go for but we absolutely love it. With such busy lifestyles, Josh is a chef and I’m a host manager at a local hotel, we’re always in and out so we wanted something that would be ready and waiting, and we’ve been lucky enough to get exactly that.
“I’m so grateful that we’ve been able to cut out all the fuss you get with an old house. In fact, we couldn’t believe how easy it was; we used Help to Buy and the Sales Executives were really helpful and told us to just pop in if we were unsure about something. Help to Buy wasn’t stressful, it was quite the opposite, and only needing a 5% deposit made our move possible. The whole process was much faster than expected; we came back from our holiday and the Sales Executives told us we could have the keys straight away.”
While enjoying life in their home, Josh and Chloe are excited about their future at Sherford, as Chloe discusses: “For a young couple who wants a family, Sherford is perfect because you can plan for the future. We can see the town developing and it’s brilliant to watch the school that our children will go to being built. It’s reassuring to know that we’ll have everything we need, I can honestly say that we could live here forever.”
The Morgan's make their mark at Sherford
The exciting purchase of a new home only happens a handful of times, but the chance to move into a brand new town is even rarer. Nicola Morgan, mum of four, shares the ins and outs of her homebuying experience at the new Sherford development, from making a mark on a brand new home, to being a part of the caring community.
“We were all so excited about Sherford, a new community, a new town, and the homes are beautiful. Prior to our current home, we were based in a three bedroom cottage but as five became six it began to feel a little too cosy. As much as I loved our cottage, it was missing several key features, for example there was no garden and no garage causing obvious space issues. I knew it was time to start looking for a new property, and my husband, Jason, grew up in Plymstock; we’d always wanted to return so it felt like a good time to start looking in the area.
“We decided to investigate the options at Sherford, and whilst visiting the development we were shown around our now property. As soon as I walked in I just knew. The bigger picture was clear in my mind; this will be our future home and we can watch our children grow with this town. I get to watch my son's primary school being built, I look outside and see the sports pitches that my children will be playing on - it’s amazing.
The Help to Buy scheme made it possible for us to secure the property, as we only had to provide a 5% deposit. This meant no time was wasted and before we knew it December rolled around and it was time for the big move.
“Since then we have been absolutely loving life in our new home at Sherford, it’s such a lovely community forming; we’ve all got to know each other and all look out for one another. The Taylor Wimpey team have been amazing from start to finish, nothing was ever too much. I don’t think I will ever be able to stress just how happy I am in my new home. Taylor Wimpey ticks all boxes, with regards to space, design and excellent features. We all had an input into what we wanted from our new home and we definitely got everything and more with Taylor Wimpey. The girls all got a double bedroom and bathroom of their own, my son Marley got his garden and massive bedroom. Jason got his garage, his ensuite and study/man cave. But most importantly I got my very own utility room and I love it! Well done to the designers, it’s not easy to please all six of the Morgan’s I can tell you.”
The charming new town of Sherford, is tucked away on the outskirts of Plymouth, and property seekers are now able to secure a future in this town by reserving one of our homes. Sherford residents will not only have fresh homes, but a fresh community; with a number of new facilities including schools, a health centre, a town hall, and a library, that families can be amongst the first to use.
