    About the area

    Family fun is never far away. The “Romsey Rapids” is an all-year-round tropical water wonderland featuring a swirling canal of scream-inducing, foaming water – discreetly watched over by fully trained lifeguards – as well as bubble seats, a pirate galleon, tipping bucket and treasure chest. There is also a training pool and a learner’s pool among other highlights. There are plenty of restaurants and quality family public houses in Romsey, including The Wheatsheaf, with a friendly bar-scene and local cuisine.     Romsey’s position means that Abbotswood boasts a wealth of transport links. Romsey Railway Station is just over 2 miles from the development. Operated by First Great Western, services can help you get to wherever you need to be in the UK, with a journey to London Waterloo coming in at under two hours. Southampton Airport, with around 50 destinations to choose from, including 15 French destinations, is approximately 11.1 miles away. Romsey is within 10 miles of both the M27 and M3, providing fast links along the south coast and to London. And with at least 29 local bus services to choose from, local travel should never pose a problem.

    From London:

    Take the M3 towards Southampton and continue on to the M27 towards Bournemouth and the west. Leave the M27 at Junction 3 and take the third exit towards the M271 north and Romsey. At the roundabout take the second exit onto the A3057. At the second roundabout, take the first left onto the A27 and continue straight on, past the leisure centre and at the roundabout take the second exit. At the following roundabout, take the second exit onto Winchester Road A3090. Proceed on Winchester Road underneath the railway bridge and up Winchester Hill. Take a left onto Braishfield Road. At the roundabout, take the first left and the Abbotswood development is immediately ahead.


    From the West:

    Leave the M27 at Junction 2 and take the first exit onto the A36. At the roundabout take the fourth exit after the service station onto the A3090. Continue into Romsey. At the mini roundabout go straight over and at the next roundabout take the first exit. Proceed until you reach the roundabout and take the second exit onto Winchester Road A3090. Proceed on Winchester Road underneath the railway bridge and up Winchester Hill. Take a left onto Braishfield Road. At the roundabout, take the first left and the Abbotswood development is immediately ahead.

    About the area

    The awe-inspiring Norman Abbey, which plays host to an eclectic annual music programme, dominates the town and is surrounded by medieval streets. Watermills play an important part in the history of Romsey (The Domesday Book of 1086 providing the earliest record of watermills here), and Sadler’s Mill, dating back to the 16th century, is almost certainly the most famous of the town’s surviving mills.

    Romsey Abbey, originally built to house a community of Benedictine nuns, is open daily to visitors. You may also wish to take part in The Mayor’s Picnic – famous for its popular Duck Race – hosted mid-summer and held in Romsey’s Memorial Park. Or perhaps you'd prefer the medieval King John's House, Tudor Cottage and former Victorian Gun shop, which together make a new heritage centre that boasts amazing period gardens and a bubbling mill stream as well as offering spellbinding displays.

    In Romsey, the past, present and future merge successfully and the recently renovated town centre now boasts a Waitrose supermarket, a department store, and over 100 other retail outlets, including high street chains and local shops, catering to all the needs of modern living.

    “Although we’d been house-hunting for a while, when I first visited Abbotswood it was on business rather than because I was looking for a home there.

    “I was very impressed with the development. All the homes were nice and the showhome was just jaw-dropping. My perception of new-builds had previously not been great, but Taylor Wimpey is different.

    “For example, the number and size of windows in their homes mean there’s lots of light, which makes such a difference to how it feels inside. 

    The development also has an excellent location. It’s very picturesque and I thought, if we can afford to live here, it will be a good investment.

    “Help to Buy definitely meant we could buy the house we wanted. As a mortgage advisor, I can see that it’s enabling people to get good rates with lenders. People who might otherwise have been renting for a long time are thinking about settling down and others are finding they can look at a bigger home than they previously thought they could afford.

    “We were both living with our parents when we met in November 2014. Very early on we realised we wanted to move in together, so we started looking around to see how much we would need to save, expecting to purchase our first home in 2016.

    “We love the design of the house – the size of the rooms is perfect, and the sky lights and Juliet balcony in the living room make it a really bright space. The spare room is ideal for when friends and family come to stay, and the exterior looks beautiful with grey cladding and the balcony.

    “The staff at Taylor Wimpey have been really helpful throughout the whole process of buying our first home. This was an entirely new experience for us and they were really understanding when we had so many questions.

    “It was also great that we could choose our own Options, as there were so many different styles available which meant we could really put our own stamp on the place.”
