Scout group receives a helping hand
A scout group in Bursledon, Hampshire, has received a welcome donation from us to help enhance its facilities.
Our Southern Counties team donated £250 to the 7th Itchen South (Bursledon) Scouts, which has been active in the community for the past 84 years and has operated from its current premises since 2001. The group is now looking to improve its facilities at Poland's Wood Estate, Bursledon, with donations from private sector organisations.
Derren Avis, Group Scout Leader of the 7th Itchen South Scouts, explains: “We offer a range of exciting activities for youngsters in the area, such as residential camping experiences and teambuilding exercises, as well as teaching scouting skills, arts and crafts, fire safety, and much more.
“The building we use is in need of updating, and the donation from Taylor Wimpey will be used to provide new exterior lighting at the premises.
“Not only is this important from a health and safety standpoint, but it will also allow us to hold evening activities outside during the warmer months, rather than being stuck inside the building.
“Donations like this are vital for allowing us to put on events for the groups that use the building, and by improving the facilities, we are hoping to attract even more members. On behalf of the group, I would like to say a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey.”
Roz Wells, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we were delighted to make this donation to the 7th Itchen South Scout group.
“We hope that the money will go a long way to improving facilities at the group’s headquarters.”

Taylor Wimpey donates to Southampton Scouts for the second year running
Once again Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties has helped the 7th Itchen South Cubs, in Bursledon, Southampton with its much-needed renovation project.
The contribution of toilets and sinks to the club was essential to the new scout hut, as their original toilet needed to be upgraded.
Diane Anderson, a volunteer on the executive committee, which helps to manage the groups, comments: “The contribution of the new sinks was incredible as it has allowed us to spilt level them, so it was much easier for the little ones to use.
“Due to the increasing number of scouts joining the club we desperately needed to upgrade and replace our facilities. Thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s amazing donation we have been able to future proof our scout hut.”
Roz Wells, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, says: “This is a wonderful organisation. The Scouts do so much in the local community and we’re only too happy to see the new refurbishment benefitting the club.
“The scouting organisation allows children from the age of six years old into adulthood to grow in confidence and gain extra life skills, to achieve their full potential. We are honoured to be able to support such a longstanding community institution.
“We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build and the Scouts is not far from our Kingfisher Grange development, so when we heard of its renovation project, we were delighted to be able to help in some way.”
Diane adds: “On behalf of all our scouts and leaders, I’d like to extend our thanks to Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties for its kindness.”
