Cherry Orchard Primary Academy receives donation for World Book Day

We have donated £250 to Cherry Orchard Primary Academy in Ebbsfleet Valley to celebrate World Book Day which took place on Thursday 1st March. World Book Day aims to encourage more children to love reading and Taylor Wimpey’s donation will go towards providing children in Cherry Orchard Primary Academy with new books to enjoy.

Julie Forsythe, Principal at Cherry Orchard Primary Academy, which is located near to our Waterside at Castle Hill development, commented: “I would like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey on behalf of everyone at our school. We really appreciate their donation, which will go a long way towards new reading material. Books are a great way to fire up children’s imaginations and to teach them about the world around them, so it’s brilliant to be able to add some new titles to our school library.”


Jason Stokes, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South East, said: “World Book Day is a great opportunity to celebrate books and reading and, as part of our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we build, it was our pleasure to donate £250 to Cherry Orchard Primary Academy. Pupils at Cherry Orchard Primary Academy learn how to stay safe

Children from Cherry Orchard Primary Academy have learned a valuable lesson about staying safe thanks to a special assembly we organised.

Waterside - Cherry Orchard visit

Cherry Orchard Primary Academy is located close to our Waterside at Castle Hill development so we visited the school to ensure that youngsters are aware of the dangers of a construction site.

On Monday 18th September pupils from nursery age up to Year 2 enjoyed the talk by our Regional HSE Advisor Iain Simpson, as well as a visit from our mascots Handy Andy and Millie Mortar. Each of the children also received a special Taylor Wimpey goody bag.

The pupils found out about the many different dangers posed by construction sites, and were invited to design a poster to show what they had learned from the talk.

Jason Stokes, Regional Sales and Marketing Director, says: “Children are naturally curious about the world around them so building sites can seem like an exciting place from their perspective.

“That’s why it is vital for us to explain that in reality they are places of work which are full of very serious dangers that should really only be visited by trained professionals in the appropriate safety gear. We hope the children enjoyed our assembly and that it will help them to stay safe in the future.”

Academy Principal Julie Forsythe says: “A lot of the children are familiar with the nearby Castle Hill development, so it was good for them to learn about the dangers associated with a construction site. They thoroughly enjoyed the talk and the information given was extremely valuable in highlighting the dangers of building sites.

“We thank Taylor Wimpey for coming to our school and helping our pupils to understand what those dangers are and of the importance of staying safe.”

Community Centre is now open on Castle Hill.
