Hazel Community Primary School receives donation from Taylor Wimpey

As part of its ongoing commitment to working in partnership with local communities, Taylor Wimpey East Midlands has recently provided £500 of funding to Hazel Community Primary School in Leicester. The donation provided by Taylor Wimpey has gone towards new waterproof overalls, hats, gloves, wellington boots and socks, for pupils of all ages at the school to wear when they visit Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trusts’ Wild Forest School, located in Knighton Park.

Forest School is a unique outdoor education programme which gives children the chance to explore, discover, connect and learn about the great outdoors at their own pace. Sessions at Forest School happen entirely outdoors, whatever the weather.

Commenting on the support received from Taylor Wimpey, Adam Cleaver, Learning Behaviour Mentor at Hazel Community Primary School, said: “We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received from Taylor Wimpey and we can’t thank them enough for their generous donation. Our pupils always look forward to visiting Forest School but we found that during the colder and wetter months, some children didn’t have appropriate clothing. With Taylor Wimpey’s donation, we’ve been able to purchase clothing for pupils of all ages and sizes.

“There’s not much green space at the school so it’s great that we can take the children to Forest School so they can enjoy and learn all about the great outdoors. We’ve found that our pupils are really starting to transfer the skills they have learnt at the Forest School back into the classroom. On behalf of everyone at Hazel Community Primary School, I would like to say a huge thank you to the team at Taylor Wimpey.”

Martha Rose, Senior Education Officer at Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, said: “Connecting with the great outdoors and learning about nature is a crucial part of childhood. During Forest School sessions, the children take part in a range of activities, such as making jewellery and instruments using the wood found in the forest. We aim to help the children to become more happy, confident and independent learners to give them a deeper understanding of the natural world.”

Rob Curry, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Hazel Community Primary School. Getting the children out of the classroom and into the natural environment helps give them a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature.

“We do more than just build high-quality homes. Being able to work with local schools, organisations and businesses that surround our developments means a great deal to us and it’s great to know that we are helping to make a difference to the lives of people in local communities.”

Taylor Wimpey’s donation to Hazel Community Primary School is one of the many contributions being made by the housebuilder towards community facilities and infrastructure in the wider area.
