War hero remembered at Millbrook Park
To honour the bravery of Michael Robbins, a soldier who lost his life on Inglis Barracks 30 years ago, one of the new roads at Millbrook Park has been named Michael Robbins Way.
On Monday 30th July, Michael’s family were invited to a commemoration event at the development, during which the road sign was unveiled. Michael’s mother, Cindy Dennis, was also presented with a regimental flag during the ceremony. Other guests included deputy Lord Lieutenant Michael Russell and Warrant Officer Stewart Blakey from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Jack Costello, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey North Thames, said: “Reflecting and celebrating the history of the communities in which we build is really important to us. We were honoured to invite Michael Robbins’ family to Millbrook Park to watch the reveal of the new road name. I’m glad that we have been able to express our gratitude for Michael’s bravery - it’s the very least we could do to say thank you.”
Commenting on the ceremony Keith Hurford, Millbrook Park Project Director, said: “We’re so pleased that Michael Robbins’ family enjoyed the special ceremony and I’m sure they will treasure this for years to come.”
We support Saam Theatre Company’s Persian-English with donation for theatre celebrations
We recently teamed up with Saam Theatre Company and donated £2,700 to cover the costs of hiring a venue for this year’s Persian-English Independent Theatre Festival. The festival, organised by the theatre company, was introduced in 2013 and is a celebration of Iranian theatre within Persian-English culture. This year’s festival took place between the 10th and 13th May and welcomed over 800 guests from the UK and beyond.
Saam Theatre Company, which is based in Colchester with group activities taking place in London, was initially set up 18 years ago by volunteers to create an environment for Persian and English cultures to come together and share their passion for Iranian theatre. Since then, the organisation has provided members between the ages of 12-70 with a place to feel well-connected within the community and has played a role in helping people to overcome loneliness.
Commenting on the support received from Taylor Wimpey, Soussan Farrokhnia, Director of Saam Theatre Company, said: “Our festival this year brought people from countries such as America, Germany and Poland together to celebrate the English-Persian culture. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the four days of theatre, food and discussion and we are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their donation to the event. We are all volunteers so support from companies like Taylor Wimpey allows us to continue the work we do in bringing the community together - we’re already planning another festival next year!”
Jack Costello, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey North Thames, said: “It means a great deal to us to be able to support local community groups, like the Saam Theatre Company, who do a fantastic job of bringing people together. The work we do is about much more than building new homes and we hope that next year’s festival will be an even bigger success.”
