Surrounded by trees and hedgerows, Drayton Road is a new development located on the southern edge of the lovely market town of Abingdon.

Abingdon has a rich and interesting history, being one of several places that claims to be one of Britain's oldest continuously occupied towns, with people having lived there for at least 6,000 years. The town's Monday market has existed since 1556. Now known as the Ock Fair, The Michaelmas Fair was originally a 'hiring mart' for people looking for employment.

The beauty of Abingdon lies in being able to enjoy all its history and character, while still having the convenience of all the amenities you need close at hand. For the weekly shop, you can choose from Waitrose or The Co-operative both within 1.5 miles from Drayton Road and other supermarkets a little further from home. For all your retail therapy needs, visit The Orchard Centre and the Clarendon Centre, both less than 10 miles from your door and both offering high street names and plenty of places to eat or grab a coffee. There is a lovely selection of pubs and restaurants in the town, so there's plenty of choice when it comes to finding somewhere to enjoy a drink or an evening meal.

When it comes to travel, you are well placed, be it journeys by road, rail or air. Didcot Parkway is less than 7 miles from your door, Oxford bus station for coach travel less than 10 miles away and for journeys further afield, London Heathrow Airport just under 50 miles from home.

For the sporting among you, Abingdon Rugby club, Oxford United Football club and a number of golf courses can all be found within 10 miles of Drayton Road. If you're looking to keep fit, Fitness in Time Gym is less than 2 miles away.

There is an excellent choice of schools for all ages in the area, with both a pre-school and primary school less than half a mile away. Abingdon & Witney College is under 2 miles from home and the University of Oxford is less than 9 miles from your door.

So if you're looking for a location with plenty of history, character and connections, Drayton Road could well be the destination for you.

Snippet: Before Trinity Church was built the tallest spire in Abingdon was that of St. Helen's church. Trinity deliberately made their spire a little bit taller.

MORLAND GARDENS OFFERS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS FOR BOB

Bob - Case studyThere are many factors to consider when deciding to invest in a new home and for buyer Bob Griffiths, Taylor Wimpey’s Morland Gardens development in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, ticked all the right boxes.

Bob (63) moved into his luxurious four-bedroom detached ‘Langdale’ property in March 2017, and, finds Abingdon the perfect location for his professional and leisure requirements.

The blend of a peaceful, rural setting combined with excellent urban facilities within easy reach and great transport links to London has made Morland Gardens an ideal home for Bob.

“I’d been looking for something within reasonable commuting distance of London after deciding to set up a home on my own, and Abingdon fitted the bill,” he says. “It provides quick and easy access to Didcot Parkway station where I can get a direct train into London Paddington in about 45 minutes.

“I also found it very appealing that Morland Gardens is on the edge of town, so there are green fields surrounding the development with bridle paths and scenic walks just a short stroll away, while in the other direction you’re just a 15-minute walk from the shops, restaurants and bars of Abingdon.

“The River Thames runs through the town, where there’s a couple of nice pubs where I can sit and watch the world go by, which has been really pleasant to enjoy over the summer months.”
Bob, a telecommunications consultant, is based in London two or three days a week and works from home the rest of the time, so has found the carefully-planned layout and spacious design of the ‘Langdale’ to his liking.

“The four bedrooms means I can have a dedicated office while the L-shaped design of the house means there’s a dual aspect to two bedrooms and the lounge and kitchen/dining room downstairs, so there’s a light and airy feeling to place and the layout works well for me,” he says.

“The finish of the home was also excellent, from the decoration to the installation of all the appliances. It was all done to a very high standard – there have been no snags or anything negative to report.
“The sales staff at Taylor Wimpey, meanwhile, were extremely helpful and professional throughout the sales process, from showing me the property to keeping me informed about how it was developing and finalising a moving-in date.”

Since moving into his new home, Bob is loving life at Morland Gardens. “There’s a lovely circular green space outside my house that provides a very pleasant view at the front, while the development itself – which at 150 homes isn’t overly huge – is very well laid out,” he says.

“I have family in and around a 30-mile radius from home and it’s just really nice to live in a peaceful place so close to a pleasant town like Abingdon.”
