Taylor Wimpey - Cystic Fibrosis Family Fun Day

An ambitious fundraiser from Didcot is preparing to host his second annual Family Fun Day in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust – with help from leading local housebuilder Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire.

Fred Swanborough has been raising money for the charity for several years after his youngest son, Freddie (eight), was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. The 33-year-old has already raised nearly £15,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust but last year embarked on a new mission to collect a further £40,000 before his 40th birthday.

This latest fundraising drive kicked off with the first Cystic Fibrosis Family Fun Day at Edmonds Park in Didcot last summer – and Fred is hoping to make the second event on Saturday 25th June 2016 even more successful.

One of the main sponsors of this year’s festivities is Taylor Wimpey, which is currently building a range of new homes at Great Western Park in the town and has provided £220 towards the event’s running costs.

Fred says: “The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is a charity I’m passionate about and after Freddie was diagnosed with the condition I was determined to support it in any way I could – though I never could have imagined the journey I have been on since then.

“I’m glad to have raised so much money so far but now I’ve set myself a new challenge and last year’s Cystic Fibrosis Family Fun Day was just the start.

“I live in a Taylor Wimpey home at Great Western Park so I approached them about the possibility of helping me out for this year’s event – and I was overwhelmed when they agreed to be a sponsor straight away. If it wasn’t for sponsorship the fun day simply wouldn’t be possible so I’d like to say a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey for their incredible support.”

Fred, who lives with his wife Erin and their two older children Jordan (15) and Kayleigh (11), as well as Freddie, is now busy making preparations for the event.

Taylor Wimpey’s donation has already been used to pay for a laser tag game, and the fun day will also feature children’s games and activities, a football tournament for youngsters and adults, plus stalls and refreshments.

Over time, Fred hopes the event will catch on around the country with other cystic fibrosis fundraisers hosting their own fun days in their own communities on the same day each year.
Nikki Gibson, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire, says: “Fred did a fantastic job bringing the whole community together at Edmonds Park for last year’s Cystic Fibrosis Fun Day, so when he approached us about getting involved we jumped at the chance to help.

“We’re delighted that our donation will contribute towards what promises to be another hugely enjoyable day out for all the family, and we wish Fred all the very best in his fundraising endeavors.”
