WHEATLEY PARISH COUNCIL CELEBRATES THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY WITH HELP FROM TAYLOR WIMPEY
The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in Wheatley were a royal success thanks to a helping hand from leading local housebuilder Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire.
The developer, which is currently preparing to launch high-quality new homes at Mill Green on the outskirts of the village, donated £450 to Wheatley Parish Council’s event to help fund the centrepiece cake and First Aid Matters presence at the celebrations, which took place on Sunday 12th June.
Tim Davies, parish councillor and organiser of the event, says: “As a village we decided we wanted to all get together to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
“The event started with a service of celebration at St Mary the Virgin Church, which was followed by a village parade with floats, Youth choirs, Scouts, Girl Guides, Fire Service & WWII vehicles.
“We then enjoyed quizzes relating to Her Majesty’s lifetime, music and dance through the decades performed by local schoolchildren and choirs, lots of stalls, activities and street entertainers, plus the Happy Birthday Tea event which included the cake provided by Taylor Wimpey.
“The cake represented a huge centrepiece for the occasion – it was decorated in the shape of a crown with sparkly bits which matched the real number of diamonds on the Crown Jewels.
“We also sent a ‘Happy Birthday’ message to the Queen during the tea party, and then the celebrations came to a close with a village ceilidh.”
Taylor Wimpey offered to support Wheatley Parish Council’s celebrations after its members appealed for help.
“Having members of First Aid Matters at the event was also really important, as it’s a necessity with public events,” continues Tim. “We had huge support from everyone in the village – it was a big community effort and Taylor Wimpey’s donation of the cake provided something special for the event, so it made a huge difference.
“We had a party in Wheatley to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, but we’ve never done anything on this scale for a long time, so it was a great way to get everyone together and this donation was greatly received.”
Nikki Gibson, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire, says: “We were thrilled to lend our support to Wheatley Parish Council’s special event and help everyone in the village celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
“We hope everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed eating the cake.”
