Local girl lands dementia group with £1000 homebuilder donation

The people of Sheffield have spoken and following a month of voting earlier this year Jessica Webster has been nominated to receive a £1000 donation from Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, which will go towards the local dementia group which has helped her mum.

As part of the homebuilder’s Community Chest campaign, residents of Sheffield had the opportunity to vote for a worthy cause in their local area which they wanted to receive a boost. After votes were cast, Jessica finished on top, receiving an influx of nominations for her cause.  A frequent fundraiser, Jessica has regularly contributed to Alzheimer's Society and Heeley Trust Young Dementia Group in Sheffield, which is held one afternoon per month to help young adults with dementia.

During lockdown, Jessica undertook a 26-mile walk over a one-month period with her two-year- old daughter and raised over £600 for Alzheimer's Society. The cause is something close to her heart as Jess's mum, Jill, was diagnosed with the devastating illness just two years ago.

Regarding the donation, she commented: “I’m thrilled to have been nominated for this and I’m happy that the money will go towards such an incredible local group which helps young people with dementia.

“I want to say a huge thank you to both Taylor Wimpey and to those who voted for me, it’s been overwhelming to receive the news.”

She continued: “I have no doubt that this contribution will help the group and I’m hoping that one day there will be a breakthrough to find a cure for this illness which affects so many younger people as well as old.” Ross Clarkson, sales director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “To us, building homes is about much more than just bricks and mortar; it’s about supporting the communities in which we build. Hearing that Jessica has won this initiative for the dementia group is truly fantastic news and we’re delighted to be able to contribute.

“Jessica and her family should be proud of what they’ve achieved already together for charity and we hope this additional money can be of great benefit to the group which is there for people going through this illness.”
