    A Nuneaton school that has embarked on an exciting period of expansion has received a timely donation from leading local housebuilders Taylor Wimpey Midlands and Taylor Wimpey West Midlands.

    Both developers, currently building high-quality homes at their respective Milby Hall and Cotton Grange developments at The Farm, off Weddington Road in the town, have donated £500 to Higham Lane School.


    The £1,000 total went towards purchasing IT equipment for the school’s new sixth form, which was introduced in September.

    Ben Elliott, Director of Corporate Services at Higham Lane School, says: “We set up two IT labs in the new buildings for our sixth form, so this fantastic donation went towards purchasing computers that went in there.


    “We’ve been looking to establish a sixth form here for the best part of 10 years – it’s been something the parents have always wanted so it’s fantastic to see it come to fruition.

    “There are a lot of set-up costs involved with establishing something like this, so the timing of this donation couldn’t be better. It’s really important and helped us a lot with getting the new equipment that’s needed for our sixth form students, so we’d like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey.”


    Higham Lane’s expansion comes at an exciting time for the school. Recent data released by Ofsted and the Department for Education revealed that the school performed within the top 8% of all secondary schools in England based on 2015 GCSE results, while in 2014 the Minister of State for Education congratulated the school for being placed within the top 100 non-selective state-funded schools in the country.


    “We have more than 1,200 pupils and there’s a lot going on right now,” adds Ben. “We’re fortunate to be part of a large school that’s progressing very well and it’s certainly an exciting time to be here.”
