Cornerstone - Winter 2019
Proud to put over £450,000 towards improving communities around Shipston-on-Stour
We're proud to have contributed over £450,000 towards improving the Warwickshire communities that neighbour our Herdwick Gate development in Shipston-on-Stour. Through contributions tied to the planning permission we've helped improve local infrastructure and nearby community facilities as well as providing much-needed new homes, including affordable housing.
Money set aside for the local area through a section 106 agreement and the community infrastructure levy for Herdwick Gate will fund highway improvements, public open space, sports pitches and more. Just under £360,000 will go towards the provision of education facilities, as well as £7,125 for sustainable travel and £50,000 to improve the Portobello crossroads in Fosse Way.
Anne Wallace, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Midlands, said: “We are committed to building high-quality new homes and making sure that our developments are sustainable and positively contribute to local communities. Education, transport infrastructure and community facilities are all among the areas that benefit from planning contributions, and we are proud to be providing these as part of our developments.”
Rugby club scores with new training equipment
The minis and juniors teams at Shipston RFC are training with some brand new equipment thanks to a £500 donation from our Midlands team. Comprising of mens, boys, and girls teams, Shipston RFC is integral to the local sporting community and the donation of high-quality kit has helped the team both in training and in competing to their full potential.
Dan Scobie, Chair of Shipston RFC said: “We’re so grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their generous donation. Ensuring that we have equipment of the highest quality is really important in making sure that our teams have the best shot at performing well in matches. The minis and juniors teams are already making the most of their new equipment and we’re confident they’re going to excel in the new year.”
Young footballers look the part thanks to kit sponsorship
Pupils from Shipston High School kicked off 2019 in a new football kit after we agreed to sponsor the team. The £365 donation comes as part of our national Proud campaign, which shows Taylor Wimpey’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which we build new homes.
Stuart Lockwood, PE Teacher at Shipston High School, said: “We are really grateful to the local Taylor Wimpey team for their generous donation. We pride ourselves on ensuring that we have high quality equipment and training gear to make sure that our pupils have the best shot at performing to their full potential. The students are already making the most of the new kit, and we’re confident they’re going to excel this year.”
Library donation helps get Shipston youngsters reading
The library at Shipston Primary School has recently been refurbished and re-stocked with a brand new selection of fiction books thanks in part to a £500 donation from our Midlands team.
Headteacher Christian Hilton said: “We’re so grateful for the generous donation from Taylor Wimpey. Guaranteeing that our pupils have access to the highest-quality books and learning resources is of paramount importance to Shipston Primary so we really appreciate this kind of support.”
We proudly sponsor Shipston Proms
We have helped support local Warwickshire talent with a £250 donation to a long-standing Shipston music festival.
Founded in 1998, Shipston Proms is organised by a small group of volunteers whose aim is to provide two weeks of musical entertainment in the town, showcasing a range of music for all tastes and ages and encouraging participation by as many local musicians as possible. This year’s event will kick off on 14th June and promises to bring a fortnight of local favourites alongside emerging musicians. The Proms takes place in multiple venues across Shipston-on-Stour, close to Taylor Wimpey’s Herdwick Gate and Herdwick Fold developments.
Peter White, Proms Treasurer, said: “We’re so grateful to Taylor Wimpey for this generous donation. Shipston Proms relies on the time given by its volunteers as well as the kind donations from our sponsors, such as Taylor Wimpey. This year’s Proms is set to be a huge success, with many exciting new acts and a talent competition which will culminate in the winner performing on the final night.”
Anne Wallace, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey Midlands, said: “We’re so proud to support Shipston Proms with a £250 donation. The work that we do extends beyond simply building great houses and it’s always such an honour to give back to local communities. Our first development in Shipston-on-Stour, Herdwick Gate was met with such high demand and we’re delighted to continue to give back to the community in Shipston-on-Stour with the launch of our new development, Herdwick Fold.”
