A small, pleasant Scottish town in East Ayrshire, Stewarton is self-contained, with a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants – but it’s also only half an hour by road or rail from effervescent Glasgow.

The area is steeped in history which often shades into myth, but solid reminders include the robust Dean Castle, a museum inside the foreboding Dicks Institute, and the poet Robert Burns’ monument in nearby Kilmarnock.

Stewarton’s annual gala has a distinctive edge, celebrating both the local trade in bonnet-making and proclaiming as gala “Queen” the most academically successful girl in the second year at Stewarton Academy.

Talking of education, four local primary schools feed into Stewarton Academy.  There’s further education at Ayrshire College, and a host of opportunities in Glasgow.

We pave the way for a local school garden!

We came to the aid of our local primary school – Lainshaw Primary - to provide materials, labour and expertise to create new pathways in the school garden which means the garden can now be accessed by all pupils including those in wheelchairs.  Our team’s expertise has been very valuable as Muriel Bennett, depute head teacher of Lainshaw Primary explains:  “We’ve created such a lovely school garden with lots of hard work from pupils, our gardening club, staff and indeed friends and family but we wanted to be able to create pathways to link the different areas that we have and to allow wheelchair access.  I was delighted that Taylor Wimpey’s local site manager David McClure answered our call for help, and was able to help us out with both materials for the job as well as manpower too, and we’re thrilled with the results.  The pathways now link to other slabbed areas making our garden accessible for all children and staff who wish to enjoy it!”
