We support Bilston Primary School with World Book Day donation

Pentland Green World Book Day 3

World Book Day celebrations at Bilston Primary School in Bilston were boosted by our donation of £250 in support of the national event which took place on Thursday 5th March.

Now in its 23rd year, World Book Day aims to encourage children of all ages to enjoy and appreciate the pleasures of reading. Sheryl Wallace, Head Teacher at Bilston Primary, said: “World Book Day is a fantastic initiative which really encourages children to develop their reading. Thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s donation, we’ll be able to add some new books to our library and we can’t wait for our pupils to get stuck into some new stories.”

Kirsty McGill, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “We were delighted to support Bilston Primary with a donation to mark World Book Day. We hope the pupils had a brilliant day celebrating their favourite characters and that they all enjoy reading some new books together.”

The World Book Day donation to Bilston Primary is one of many ways in which Taylor Wimpey is supporting the local communities in which it builds. To find out more visit www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/media-centre/news.

Financial boost for community garden signals our return to Bilston

    Bilston Community Garden 2

Signalling our return to the Midlothian town of Bilston, and as part of our ongoing commitment to working in partnership with local communities, we have recently donated £500 to the Bilston Community Garden.

The donation has helped the Community Garden volunteers make substantial improvements to the corner allotment of ground that it has within the village, which so far has included the provision of new fencing and the installation of some raised beds.  Some of the funding has also been allocated to provide a new shed, as well as more raised beds to improve the experience for those who want to access the garden and all that it offers.

Our donation to the Bilston Community Garden marks a key milestone for the company following our return to Bilston and the launch of our new homes for sale at Pentland View, off Seafield Road.

Commenting on the support it has received from Taylor Wimpey, Ian Tucker, a local volunteer who is leading the project on behalf of Roslin and Bilston Community Council said: “We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received from Taylor Wimpey and we can’t thank them enough for their generous donation.  This is the only free activity that is open to all in Bilston, and it is doing what it can to help tackle food poverty and isolation as well as promoting health and wellbeing.

    Bilston Community Garden

“Our garden is becoming more established, and while this wasn’t a great year for growing, we have managed to provide a range of soft fruits and some vegetables for the local community to simply pick and enjoy.  As we are moving towards the winter, we still have lots of work to do in the garden to get it ready for next spring, when we hope it will be even more productive, and Taylor Wimpey’s donation will help us to do that.”

Taylor Wimpey is delighted to offer its support as Kirsty McGill, Sales and Marketing Director adds: “We are absolutely delighted to be back building and delivering new homes in Bilston, and we are equally proud to be able to support the Bilston Community Garden with a fundraising boost, which has allowed their plans to grow and develop over the last few months.

“We do more than just build high-quality homes. Being able to work with local businesses and organisations that surround our developments means a great deal to us, and it’s great to know that we are helping to make a difference to the lives of people in local communities.”

We give a lesson in safety to local school children in Bilston

Bilston Primary SchoolMarking our return to Bilston, we have visited Bilston Primary School to give the children some reminders about health and safety.

As construction of new homes at our Pentland Green, off Seafield Road in Bilston is well underway and sales have now been launched, we were keen to promote the dangers associated with playing near any construction site.  The visit gave us an opportunity to raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant as the building of our new homes progress.

Being proactive with local schools has proven an effective deterrent in the past as Tommy Stirling, Production Director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland explains: “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is of vital importance to us.  Taking this type of proactive approach with local schools allows us to reinforce just how important it is for children to stay away from building sites, and it gives us the chance to remind the children that building sites are not playgrounds!”
