Primary school pupils get a lesson at our Armadale development!
Pupils visiting our 4 Bedroom Maxwell Show Home
27th June, 2016
Pupils from a primary school in West Lothian were given an exciting opportunity to see the new homes that are under construction at our Ferrier Way development in Armadale as part of their ‘Houses and Homes’ project in school.
Youngsters from the Primary one and two classes from St Anthony’s Primary School asked if they could explore our development to learn all about how a house is built, look at various stages of construction and take the opportunity to visit the two completed showhomes at the development.
The team in Armadale was more than happy to facilitate the visit and found the children to be very enthusiastic with lots of interesting and well-informed questions as Jim Hardie, Site Manager at Ferrier Way adds: “I was delighted to be able to welcome the pupils from St Anthony’s Primary School along to the development for an exciting insight into the build process of a Taylor Wimpey home.
“I was very impressed by how much the children already knew about building a new home, and the number of questions they asked shows me they’re clearly interested in this topic. In fact I hope we’ve inspired a few of the youngsters to consider the housebuilding industry in the future.
“Whilst the children were on-site, I took the opportunity to remind them never to play near a building site and that a school visit was extra-special because normally there are no children allowed near any construction. Never playing near a construction site is a message that we’re keen to reinforce to the wider local community.”
Class teacher Marianne Docherty, says: “Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Taylor Wimpey’s construction site, asking lots of questions and learning about the building process. They really enjoyed seeing some of the different stages that it takes to build a new house in real-life, and we know they absolutely loved the showhomes!”
We give lesson in safety to local school children
Primary one and two pupils from St Anthony’s Primary School
Recently we gave the local children of St Anthony’s Primary School in Armadale some reminders about health and safety whilst also taking the opportunity to assist the children with their ‘Houses and Homes’ project.
As production at our development continues on the outskirts of Armadale, we are always keen to continue to promote the dangers associated with playing near any construction site, and raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant as construction work continues.
Martyn Campbell, Production Director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland adds: “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is of vital importance to Taylor Wimpey, and taking this type of proactive approach with local schools allows us to reinforce just how important it is for children to stay away from building sites.
“We’re very happy to have been able to assist St Anthony’s Primary School with their Houses and Homes project, and it has given us the chance to remind the children that building sites are not playgrounds!”
Marianne Docherty is a class teacher at St Anthony’s Primary School: “I was delighted to welcome Taylor Wimpey into our school to highlight the dangers associated with children playing near any construction site and for the team to reinforce their safety message ahead.
“It’s great that Taylor Wimpey understands the importance of our children’s safety, and has created such an interactive and proactive approach to appeal to our pupils.
“We also took the time to ask site manager Jim Hardie lots of questions to help us with our Houses to Homes projects which has given the children a real insight into how Taylor Wimpey builds new homes.”
