Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2020

Tranquil Dawn is Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2020 – a perfect green hue to welcome in a new decade

What is Tranquil Dawn?

Colour gurus call it a ‘hazy pale green’ – a sort of easy-on-the-eye, hybrid of soft sage and cool mint. It’s well-timed too. With technology dominating our lives, Tranquil Dawn is a calm and comforting shade for a brand new era. If you long to get back to nature, this is the perfect, planet-friendly colour to do just that. More relevant than last year’s Spiced Honey. And just lovelier, we think.

IS it just another green?

Well it’s green, for sure. But it’s warmer than a cool mint and fresher than a standard sage. That’s why it’s oh so workable in every style of home. In fact, we’re tipping Dulux’s colour-du-jour as the new neutral for 2020 and beyond. It’s today’s new grey and the can-do-no- wrong partner for other pastels, or jewel-rich colours if you prefer a dash of design drama.

How green should I go?

As little or as much as you like. That’s the beauty of Tranquil Dawn. Paint an entire room in the colour and you won’t be overwhelmed. Add in a few hazy green accessories (cushions, vases, a rug) and breathe new life into an existing décor, in minutes. It’s a fool proof colour to play with. Upgrade a tired bedroom by pairing with subtle peachy-pinks or warm up an all-white living space with this game-changing green. Friends will be green with envy…

Isn’t 2020 all about Classic Blue?

If you speak to global colour experts, Pantone, it’s the year of the rich royal blue. But we think you can do both and be totally on trend. Try a wash of Dulux’s Tranquil Blue as a backdrop with accents of Classic Blue for a playful colour-pop. A luxe blue velvet armchair will never date while cushions mixing up green and blue will breathe new life into a play-it-safe off-white scheme.
