Dulux Colour of the Year 2021

‘Brave Ground’ is Dulux’s Colour of the Year for 2021 and this warm, earthy neutral is the best virtual colour hug we could ask for.

What is brave ground?

The colour gurus over at Dulux HQ are calling it a ‘warm and grounding neutral shade’. An earthy brown/beige to help reconnect us to nature and get beyond a challenging year. It’s a safe shade, without doubt. Will it add wow factor, not really. But it’s fool proof and nurturing and we could all do with a bit of that at the moment. Count us in.

Is it just another neutral?

On first glance, yes. But who doesn’t love a warm, sandy hue to instil instant calm when life seems uncertain. And given that we’ve all spent so much time at home, Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2021 is the best feel-good backdrop. Brave Ground creates a blank canvas for stamping on your own personality and adds a mellow cosiness, whatever the weather. Bold jewel shades might cause a stir but you can’t beat a neutral for comfort factor.

Where should I use it?

Anywhere and everywhere. That’s the real beauty with Brave Ground, you can’t go wrong. Use all over the living space (even ceilings if you dare) for game-changing warmth. If your home is now your workplace, neutrals will keep things mellow while you graft. Kitchens, tick, bathrooms, tick. Even neutral nurseries are warm and inviting. Swap ice-cream pastels for Brave Ground and, voila, bedrooms that works effortlessly for years.

What if I love colour?

No problem. Inject pops of emerald, ink and amethyst with sumptuous velvet sofas and fringed cushions. And if you prefer pale, sweetshop hues, Brave Ground is the perfect partner for our passion for pink (trend alert: plaster pinks are one to watch for 2021). Mix and match different wall colours – navy or sage green is fabulous– and make neutrals work hard for you.
