#3 Wallpaper borders

Torn between paint and paper? Panic over. Eighties-style borders are firmly back on the style radar for 2023 so now you can have both. Forget chintzy florals and fleur-de-lys, new-season, wallpaper borders range from pillar-box red stripes and graphic florals through to abstract, linear prints in earthy neutrals. Define a door, outline a window or simply make a straightforward statement without forking out for rolls and rolls of expensive paper. Time to dig out the old-school shoulder pads and leg warmers…plumb line at the ready.

TOP TIP…experiment with borders in a smaller room to start with. These skinny strips of paper might not look much in the roll, but they will add masses of wow factor on the wall.

#4 All white kitchens

Tastemakers might be buzzing about joyful colour and expressive prints, but the all-white kitchen is making a comeback – this time, with a difference. The super-modern, super-sterile white designs that floated our boats a decade or two ago, have shifted gear into a more liveable look: day-glo, high gloss fronts are out, neutral shade layering and matt finishes are in. The 2023 white kitchen is a dreamy blend of soft, painted eggshell, ivory, vanilla and buttermilk that will definitely stand the test of time. Add in chunky shelving, a larder cupboard and glass fluted pendants for a classic-cool mood that can maximise a teeny space or create a welcome spot in a large, open plan kitchen.

PAIR WITH…terracotta floors and matt cement wall tiles for an extra layer of texture and natural hue
