How to design a child's room

Try something new when you design your little one's bedroom!

Decorating a child’s bedroom is the perfect excuse to use your imagination and get creative! You can afford to be so much more flexible here than in any other room in the house, and design something really special that mirrors your child’s personality.

For artistic youngsters, you can even buy wallpaper that they can colour in themselves, which is what Amie Reeves, Design Account Manager at Show Business Interiors, added to the child’s bedroom of our stunning ‘Dunton’ showhome at Mayberry Place, Aylesbury.

Amie says: “We’ve gone for something slightly different in this bedroom and by using an animal theme it will appeal to both boys and girls.

“We opted for a fun, interactive wallpaper and coloured it in ourselves, which is cost-effective and a great way to get creative and involve your child.”

A top tip though – if you do opt for feature wallpaper, it’s good to stick to minimalistic, plain furnishings and accessories.

“We decided to use an open white bed frame so that we could see the wallpaper. White furniture creates a fresh base and can make the room appear lighter and bigger.

“Fabrics in candy colours add an element of fun, but we made sure there was nothing too busy in this bedroom – if you have gone for an interactive wall you will want to keep the rest of the decor simple.”
