Kitchen trends in 2019

What’s hot for the 2019 kitchen catwalk…here’s the design trends you need to know about

Trend #1 Go Green

Green is huge for the home this season and a rich, dark green in the kitchen will do you no wrong. (and looks fabulous with tip #3). If all-over emerald and grass green doesn’t float your boat, test the water with green indoor plants or a stash of coloured crockery. And if green really isn’t your thing, try navy, charcoal and brown (yes, chocolate brown is back on the interiors map folks).

Trend #2 Splash Out...

…on a cutting-edge splashback, a foolproof way to add wow factor to your cook space. Bold geo prints are one to watch (tone it down with chalky pastels if too much). Textured, weathered tiles are interestingly cool, even in an all-white palette. Make life super-simple with a slick, one-piece aluminium panel in a deep metallic hue. Or go for a vintage mirrored splashback – tres chic!

Trend #3 Brassed Off

Old gold, brass and gunmetal finishes are bang on the money this season. Think beautiful vintage taps, cutlery, modern, pendant lights and even switches and sockets in warm metallic tones. Don’t worry if you splashed out on rose gold and copper last season (or even chrome and steel before that). Kitchens look cool and eclectic with a teeny mix of finishes (not all at once though).

Trend #4 On The Shelf

Open shelving has long been a design trick to open up a kitchen space. Now shelves have gone bold. In metal, wood, or glass, they are a design statement in their right. Square and blocky, with industrial-style frames that hang off the wall or under a cupboard with space to stash your stuff. Anyone for a #shelfie?

Trend #5 Surface Matters

Manmade worktops are this year’s kitchen hero. Perfect if you adore real marble, industrial concrete or terrazzo, but worry about the upkeep in a busy family kitchen as these fabulous fakes are packed with plus points. They come in different thicknesses and a huge line-up of colours for all design tastebuds.

Trend #6 Smoke Screen

You might not be ready for this, but smoked glass is back. But rather than an 80s throwback, this time around the smoky stuff is cool, modern and cutting edge. Trust us. (And what’s more, tinted glass won’t show up so much dust inside the cupboard). Otherwise, go for fluted or ribbed glass for an elegant touch.
