Annual summer festival in Durrington gets cash boost

We have made a welcome donation to an annual summertime festival held in Durrington, West Sussex, as the event celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Our Southern Counties business unit, which is currently building high-quality new homes at our nearby Barley Grange development, donated £250 to Durrington Festival 2017, which took place on Saturday 10th June.

Attracting thousands of people from across the community each year, the popular event embodies the spirit of the great British summer fair, featuring a range of attractions such as craft and cake stalls, a carnival, a dog show, arena events and even a competition to find the best dressed young pirate.

“I’ve been involved in the organisation of the event for the last 10 years, although it actually celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2017,” explains Sharon Clements, Chairman of the Durrington Festival Committee.

“It is a traditional summer festival designed to give something back to the local community and it’s a time of year when everyone in the area comes together, including the schools, hospice charities and groups like the WI.

“We spent the donation from Taylor Wimpey on buying walkie-talkies which were used by stewards to communicate during the event. High-visibility jackets were also bought using the money.
“The day was a huge success yet again, and really showed how strong the sense of community is in Durrington. Everybody had lots of fun, all while helping to raise money for a number of really worthwhile causes.

“Given that we receive very little in the way of corporate support and we have such a small team of organisers who put so much time and effort into putting the event on, we are really grateful for Taylor Wimpey’s donation. We were gobsmacked by the extent of their generosity and it went a long way to help promote the festival.”

Roz Wells, Associate Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we were delighted to make this donation to Durrington Festival.

“We are thrilled to hear this year’s festival was so successful and we hope that everyone who attended had a fantastic day!”

The second phase of development is coming soon at Barley Grange, including a stunning range of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
