Fun run gets a head start with our generous donation

An annual fun run event in Knowle has headed to the front of the pack after receiving a generous donation from us.

Our Midlands business unit, which is currently building high-quality homes at Middlefield Spring in the village, has donated £1,000 to this year’s Knowle 5k and 10k Fun Run, which is being organised by the Knowle and Dorridge Lions Club. The money will go towards promotional material for the event, which is taking place in May.

Having started 34 years ago, the Knowle Fun Run has gone from strength to strength, with local residents turning out in their thousands to cheer on competitors from all across the country as they pass by their homes. For the first time since the event’s inception, organisers will this year be offering a choice of 5k and 10k runs instead of the traditional 5 mile run.

“This donation really does make a big difference to us, and encourages other sponsors to come forward,” says Dave Carter, who organises marketing and sponsorship for Knowle and Dorridge Lions.

“Each year, we usually nominate three charities to receive most of the funds raised. This year’s major beneficiaries will be Prostate Cancer UK, Motor Neurone Disease Association and Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice. The Lions retain 30% of the proceeds to spend locally on smaller local causes. These include the sea scouts, coach trips for the elderly and youth travel bursaries, which are used to allow youngsters to go abroad. Lots of people are sure to benefit from this donation.

“The Fun Run has changed dramatically since it began, and we now attract thousands of competitors from all over the UK. In recent years, we have had over 2,000 runners take part, and this year we’re hoping that even more people will compete. As usual, we shall have four kids’ fun runs around Arden Academy playing fields before the Fun Run.”

The Knowle 5k and 10k Fun Run 2017 will take place on Sunday 21st May from Arden Academy in Station Road, Knowle. For more details and to enter online, visit www.knowlefunrun.org.uk.
Anne Wallace, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, says: “As a considerate local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, and showing our support for the Knowle Fun Run is a great example of how we can help.

“We are sure that the event will be a huge success and best of luck to all competitors.”

There is a fabulous range of two and three-bedroom homes available to reserve at Middlefield Spring.
