A soapbox race in Suffolk has been giving a flying start this year thanks to a £500 donation from our East Anglia region.
The annual Framlingham Soapbox Race 2018, which will be held in Framlingham on Sunday 20st May 2018, will see handmade gravity-powered soapbox carts of all shapes and sizes take to the winding course, running from Framlingham Castle down Market Hill.
The course, which features a new start ramp, is designed to test not just the speed of the carts, but also their handling and agility. Prizes will be given for the fastest times in each category (by age of driver) as well as to the overall winner of the head-to-head races.
This is the third year running that we have sponsored the annual event. Ahead of last year’s race Eileen Coe, Clerk of Framlingham Town Council, said: “This very exciting family event is organised by Framlingham Town Council and is expensive to run, with the high cost of insurance, road traffic management, first aid and safety barriers etc.
“It could not happen without the support of volunteers, and local businesses and organisations. We are very grateful for the generous donation from Taylor Wimpey.”
Caroline Carter, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, said: “We’re committed to making a positive contribution in the communities in which we build so we are delighted to again be sponsoring Framlingham’s Soapbox Race.
