Naomi and her partner Garry, both civil servants, who previously rented together locally but dreamt of becoming homeowners, have been able to make their move to a new home much quicker than they might have imagined using the Scottish Government’s Help to Buy scheme. On a drive past our new development Spencer Fields in Inverkeithing, they decided to pop in to find out more about the range of new homes available and reserved on-the-spot!
Deciding to buy a property is just the first step on a journey that can feel overwhelming for first-time buyers, but our sales executives are on-hand to provide buyers with the benefit of their experience, as Naomi explains: “When we decided to buy a home together, we didn’t really know what we were looking for, and we did consider older style properties as well as new-build. We happened to drive past Spencer Fields, and we popped in. We had such a helpful chat with the sales executive Isla and she explained everything so well that we reserved right there on our first visit. We had been renting locally so we know the area. Spencer Fields ticks the box from a location perspective because it is just really handy for our commute to work – we both work in Edinburgh so from here we can choose to get the bus, train or drive so it just makes everything really easy.”
The couple have bought, and recently moved into, a new Baxter three bedroom semi-detached and they found that using the Help to Buy (Scotland) scheme was really useful as Naomi adds: “This is our first property purchase together and our first step onto the property ladder. We’ve found the whole process really straightforward. Everyone says that buying a new home can be one of the most stressful things that you can do, but we’ve found the whole process to be ridiculously easy. The Help to Buy Scheme was also extremely easy to use and it made buying a new home a lot more accessible for us from a financial perspective. Everyone has been unbelievably helpful from day one.”
The couple’s move-in date was delayed due to the ongoing health emergency, but the team at Spencer Fields did a great job of keeping them informed with regular updates even just to keep in touch and provide reassurance. When move-in day finally came the couple were absolutely delighted with their new home, as Garry explains: “Buying off-plan is great because you have the chance to pick the options available for your kitchen and bathroom, but it’s also quite strange when you’ve not seen the house you’re buying. It meant that our home demo with customer relations manager Fiona was quite exciting because it was the first time that we had seen inside our house. It was lovely to see the options that we had picked all come together. Everything was perfect and we were both impressed by how well the house was laid out and, of course, very excited to move-in.”
Naomi and Gary are the first people to move into their street, but they have already met some of their other neighbours who have recently moved into the development. “Everyone is lovely,” explains Naomi, “it already feels like a friendly and neighbourly place to live and we are really happy with our move here. Since we’ve moved in we’ve had no real snagging issues but it is lovely that our CRM Fiona checks in with us regularly, and it’s good to know she’s there if we need her help with anything.”
With no DIY to worry about, Naomi has some big plans for the garden next spring, as she adds: “We have a few interior design ideas for some of the rooms in our new house, and it’s really brilliant to have a blank canvas to start with and no DIY jobs to take up our time. We have some big plans for our garden, but we’ll enjoy our house for now and perhaps think about that in the spring next year.”
