A major milestone has been reached for the new community of Sherford, with the completion of the new main road linking the development to the surrounding area.
Main Street has been built as a collaborative project between contractor Dyer and Butler, working closely with the Sherford Consortium – a partnership between Taylor Wimpey and Vistry Partnerships - and was opened with a ceremony attended by Sir Gary Streeter, MP for South West Devon on 7th October.
Eventually the road will be further expanded to accommodate a high street, with homes fronting the entire length. It will also provide the route for a new high-quality public transport link, as well as walking and cycling paths linking Sherford to other local communities.
Noel Staunton, Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey Exeter, said: “A crucial element of supporting the new community is the creation of high quality infrastructure that connects Sherford to the surrounding area. We are incredibly proud of the contribution that our team have made to this, helping Sherford become a great place to live and a hub within Devon more generally."
Sir Gary Streeter, MP for South West Devon, said: “The new town of Sherford has taken a number of years to rise out of the ground and it is vital that the support infrastructure, including the road network is put in place at this early stage. I think this will make a real difference for local people, not least providing a coherent link between the A38 and the A379. I very much welcome the opening of this high street and congratulate the County Council and the contractors for their excellent work.”
