Date: Wednesday 18 May 2016

Sam the handsome hound cross from Staplehurst, Kent, has been named the overall winner of Taylor Wimpey’s huge nationwide Pets Make A Home photography competition. Yvonne Davidson’s five-year-old dog Sam was voted a daily winner by the public after she submitted this beautiful photo of him curled up on the sofa with her youngest daughter Erin (9)

The overall winner of the contest – which set out to find the UK’s most adorable pets enjoying the comforts of home – was then chosen from the daily winners by a panel of judges, including Our Dogs Managing Director Vince Hogan and professional pet photographer Robert Ashton.

A personalised pet gift was awarded to all daily winners in Taylor Wimpey’s Pets Make A Home competition, while Yvonne has also received £500 of high street vouchers for winning the top prize!

Yvonne (50), who lives with her three children Erin, Nicolas (15) and Alexandra (18), says: “You have no idea what it means to us to win £500 worth of vouchers – times have been hard recently so we really, really appreciate it.

“It came as a massive surprise that Sam was picked out of all the daily winners, it’s just amazing!”

Sam has been part of Yvonne’s family for nearly three years now, after she rescued him from the Elpida Shelter of Hope in Livadeiá, Greece.

“I was a member of a Facebook group for the shelter and as soon as I saw Sam I fell for him”, recalls Yvonne. “He was quite a nervous dog to begin with but we gave him the time and space he needed – and plenty of my home-cooked beef stew!

“He is absolutely brilliant with the kids, especially Erin whose feet are in the photo I submitted for the competition. Whenever they are unwell he is right there beside them –he’s very protective of his family.

“We also have three other dogs – Bella, Fotis and Eva – and Sam is great with them too. He is a bit of a character to be honest, he’s very persistent when he wants to go for a walk and can be quite noisy around the house!”

Taylor Wimpey’s Pets Make A Home competition was launched on 1st April and ran until 2nd May. During that time, 7444 photographs were entered into the contest and over 75,000 votes were cast for people’s favourite pet picture.

Yvonne adds: “I’d just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who voted for Sam and to the judges for choosing him as the overall winner. It means so much and we are so grateful.”
Karen Bremner, Head of Marketing for Taylor Wimpey, says: “Once again our Pets Make A Home competition has proved a great success, with thousands of people submitting their favourite photos of their pets!”

“We’d like to say huge congratulations to Yvonne and Sam for being chosen as this year’s winners, and thank you to everyone who entered.”
