Art Competition Winners Announced

Date: Friday 11 November 2011

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland is delighted to announce the winners of its hugely popular colouring competition – run as part of the overall sponsorship of the impressive World Music Yurt that staged a series of children’s musical events during the Peebles Arts Festival this year. With over 120 entries received, competition for one of the five ‘art and crafts’ sacks was fierce.

Karen Armstrong, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland was delighted with the response and the artistic talents shown as she explains: “This is the third year that we have been involved with the Peebles Art Festival, and it’s been great to see first-hand the talent of the children who took part in this art challenge. Many of the children have taken considerable time over their entries - demonstrating the World Music Yurt and the musical events were clearly a hit! Many of the entries are very colourful and the designs are quite intricate – it’s been very difficult to choose just five winners.”

The World Music Yurt has become a familiar part of the Arts Festival programme in the town. Mandy Durkin, the Festival Administrator explains: “Once again we are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their generous sponsorship that ensured the World Music Yurt played a central role within the Arts Festival programme. It’s great that local school children get a unique world music lesson in a unique setting, with Nomad Beat's Alison Cameron. The colouring competition is a fun way to get the children to consider the difference between what is actually a Mongolian home, versus a typical Scottish family home – and we’re delighted that so many local children decided to get involved.”

The five winners each win an arts and crafts sack packed full of things to do, and the winners are: Ciara Service, P1A Priorsford Primary (Age 5); Eva Reberg, P2 Priorsford Primary (Age 6); Robert Scott Mackay, P3A Priorsford Primary (Age 7); Lydia Hughes, P4 Halyrood Primary (Age 8); and Sophie Ward Murray, P5 Halyrood Primary (Age 9).
