Beccles Town U16s kick off the season with new kit

Date: Wednesday 18 October 2017

Young footballers in Suffolk have been given a boost after landing a sponsorship deal with our East Anglia team.

We donated £500 to Beccles Town Football Club’s U16s Bees team for brand new kit, including waterproof clothing and equipment for the 16-strong squad of young players.

Paul Barford, Beccles Town FC’s Treasurer, says: “The U16 Bees epitomise what playing for Beccles Town is all about – they play as a team that truly love the game. Win, lose or draw they come off the field at full-time proud to have represented their local town, knowing that they have done their best.

“The sponsorship pledged by Taylor Wimpey will ensure every player gets the new Beccles Town FC kit which is fantastic news and is something they will all wear with great pride.”

Beccles Town Football Club, run entirely by a network of volunteers, was formed in June 2014 following a merger between Beccles Town Athletic Club, founded in 1919, and the highly successful Beccles-based youth football club, St Benet’s Wasps FC.

The merger has seen both sections develop and now includes two senior teams (first team and reserves) and 29 junior teams, including four girls’ teams, ranging in age from U8s through to U18s.

The youth teams play in the Norfolk and Suffolk Youth League and the Norfolk Women and Girls League.

The U16s Bees finished sixth last season and with a strengthened squad they are well-placed to have a good league campaign and cup run in 2017/18. The majority of the squad live in the local community and some of the players have been team-mates for nearly ten years.

Caroline Carter, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, says: “As a considerate and responsible local housebuilder, we’re keen to support groups and organisations that work so hard in the areas where we build our new homes.

“Sports clubs play such an important role within their local communities, so we were delighted to sponsor the U16s Bees team at Beccles Town Football Club, and would like to wish them every success for the coming season!”
