Air cadets in Berkhamsted have received a cash injection from us through a charity initiative which invited readers of Berkhamsted and Tring Gazette to nominate a worthwhile local cause to receive a cash grant.
1113 Berkhamsted Squadron of the Air Training Corps organises a wide range of engaging and challenging activities for local youngsters and has been awarded £500 after being voted the winner of Taylor Wimpey North Thames’ Community Chest initiative.
Flt Lt Chris Brooks, Commanding Officer of the squadron, says: “We’re very grateful for the funding we’ve received from Taylor Wimpey.
“We’ve recently had a big increase in numbers, which is fantastic news, but does mean we were in need of additional funding to support the activities that our cadets undertake.
“For example, we provide outdoor camping equipment such as rucksacks, tents, compasses and stoves to enable the cadets to take part in the bronze Duke of Edinburgh scheme, so this grant will be incredibly useful.”
The air cadets meet at the ATC headquarters in the grounds of Ashlyns School
in Berkhamsted on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7pm and enjoy a variety of weekend activities including flying, gliding, shooting, marching and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.
The squadron also offers First Aid qualifications, BTECs, adventure training, annual week-long camps and a whole range of sporting opportunities. The group is currently looking for more adult volunteers – especially women – to assist with the cadets’ learning, with full training provided.
Jack Costello, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey North Thames, says: “We’re absolutely delighted to name Berkhamsted Air Cadets as the beneficiary of the Community Chest funding.
“The squadron provides a wonderful range of activities for older children in the area and we’re thrilled that with our help it will be able to purchase additional equipment.
“We’d like to thank all the people who nominated and voted for charitable organisations and community groups that are doing such valuable work in the Berkhamsted area.”
Our Bearroc Park development in Berkhamsted currently has a range of three and five-bedroom properties on sale.
