A summer festival in Broseley, Shropshire, received a £500 cash boost from our team at Taylor Wimpey Midlands.
Organised by local residents Jo Pritchard and Nicky Ashton, the event was new for 2015 and saw 24 bands signed up to perform plus a wide variety of stalls and attractions for people of all ages to enjoy.
Jo (46) explains: “The summer carnival in Broseley was cancelled a few years ago and nothing has ever replaced it.
“Broseley is such a lovely town and we wanted to give something back. That’s why we decided to organise an event to celebrate the summer – we’re just two middle-aged women who wanted more for the town.”
Jo and Nicky originally came up with the idea of putting on a one-day festival in the town. However, as more and more people heard about their plans, the event grew and ended up taking place over a whole weekend.
Nicky (43) says: “Everyone was really excited about the festival which saw lots of people get involved!”
Jo and Nicky “fundraised like mad” to reach their target of £8,000, which covered all costs of the event. One fundraising activity that proved particularly popular was ‘flamingo flocking’, which involved people paying £3 each to nominate their friends and neighbours to receive a bright pink plastic flamingo in their garden.
Nicky explains: “Jo and I placed the flamingos in the nominated gardens overnight so people woke up to a bright pink plastic bird – it was really good fun!”
In fact, their flamingo flocking fundraising was such a hit that Jo and Nicky made ‘Lily the Flamingo’ their festival mascot.
“We even had a pink theme for the event to match our mascot,” says Jo. “Everyone loved the flamingo flocking and people even placed plastic flamingos in their shop windows!”
Our donation of £500 was used to help fund security for the Broseley Summer Celebration.
Jo says: “It’s so fantastic to have Taylor Wimpey’s support. We get excited with every bit of money we receive so to get £500 from such a big company is amazing – it’s certainly given us a boost!”
Nicky adds: “We’d like to say thank you very much to Taylor Wimpey for their donation.”
The Broseley Summer Celebration took place on Broseley High Street on Saturday 20th June and Sunday 21st June and saw all ages attend.
Our forthcoming Haycop Rise development in Broseley will offer a selection of high-quality two, three and four-bedroom homes.
