Locals celebrating the handover of the 2,000th new-build home by Soha Housing were treated to a preview of the brand new community centre at our Great Western Park development in Didcot, Oxfordshire.
The celebrations, which took place on Friday 13th March, involved the householders of Soha’s 2,000th home – located at Great Western Park – alongside the tenant of one of Soha’s first new-build homes, plus a host of local dignitaries, including Didcot and Wantage MP, Rt Hon Ed Vaizey, who conducted the handover ceremony.
Soha owns and manages around 6,100 affordable homes in Oxfordshire and the surrounding area.
Liz Roberts, Communication Officer for Soha, says: “We are delivering much-needed affordable housing for people in Oxfordshire and surrounding areas, and the handover of the 2,000th home we have built since coming into existence in 1997 was a real cause for celebration.”
The new community centre is located in the Northern District of Great Western Park – which is being built by a consortium of housebuilders comprising Taylor Wimpey, David Wilson and Persimmon Homes – and will be available for all residents and the wider community to use once it has been officially handed over to South Oxfordshire District Council.
The building includes a main hall, a kitchen and toilets with baby changing facilities. Groups which have already expressed an interest in using the centre include a toddler group, a community cafe, children's dance classes, martial arts and yoga.
Nikki Gibson, spokesperson for the Great Western Park Consortium, says: “It was great to see the new community centre get a test run at Soha’s 2,000th home celebration and we’re looking forward to this fantastic new facility opening its doors for residents very soon.”
