Work on a new wheelchair-friendly driveway has been completed at the Children’s Respite Trust in Uckfield. The charity, which offers care and support for children with disabilities across East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton and Hove, Surrey and Kent, appealed to our team for support with the works and the homebuilder stepped in to help.

Work on the driveway started at the beginning of November 2019 and took just two weeks to complete. We donated much of the materials needed to upgrade the old gravel driveway and covered the hire cost of all the machinery required including a concrete breaker and compactor. We also helped to provide manpower to get the work done, and contractors from HGH Groundworks and Hailsham Roadway provided much-needed assistance.

Gavin Fisher, Chief Executive of The Children’s Respite Trust, said: “We are so delighted that Taylor Wimpey kindly helped with the work on our driveway. Anyone who has ever tried to push a wheelchair across gravel will understand how tough it can be and we want to ensure all visitors can access the centre. We are hugely grateful to the Taylor Wimpey team for making this possible.”

Jason Stokes, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey South East, said: “The Children’s Respite Trust does such fantastic work in Uckfield and we were delighted to be able to help them with the work on their driveway. Giving back to the communities in which we build is very important to us and being able to help with a donation of materials as well as with manpower to complete the works, has made this project really special. We hope the new driveway makes a real difference to visitors.”
