Pupils from Mexborough School competed in the grand finals of the UK Rock Challenge dance competition thanks to a donation of £1,000 from Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire.
Competing against eight schools in the regional challenge at the beginning of April, Mexborough School – which is near to our The Lavenders development – finished in first place, winning 14 out of 15 awards with an Egyptian themed routine.
Claire Rowan, head of year 11 at Mexborough School, says: “We were really struggling to find funds to even attend the competition, so we were minutes away from pulling out. However, Taylor Wimpey provided us with the funds we needed. The pupils were absolutely over the moon and they couldn’t have entered without the housebuilder’s support.
“In addition to covering the costs of coaches for the pupils to attend both the regional and final contests, Taylor Wimpey’s donation also enabled us to provide dramatic costumes and striking stage sets which both won awards in the regional competition.”
Anne Bagshaw, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, says: “It’s extremely rewarding to have enabled Mexborough School to compete in this national challenge and we’re thrilled to be supporting a school with such talent.”
