The long-standing 1st Redditch Scouts group based in Redditch, Worcestershire, is inviting everyone to attend their forthcoming family fundraising event on Friday 15th May. We have donated £150 to the scouts group for them to purchase some essential equipment required for their activities.

The predominant fundraiser of the night will be the Redditch Pig Racing, a tabletop game which encourages the audience to place bets.

Alan Brinkworth, Chairman of the scouts group, says: “This fundraiser is the first one we’ve organised that will appeal to all family members, so our event can be enjoyed by both children and adults and we would like to invite everyone along to attend.

“We have formed close links with the surrounding community over the years, and we have worked hard to develop enjoyable and worthwhile activities that teach the children many skills.

“We decided to organise this fundraising event after the group formed a reconstituted committee which came up with some new ideas. There will be many fun activities taking place during the night, including a BBQ, the summer draw, a bouncy castle and of course the Redditch Pig Racing!”

The 1st Redditch Scouts dates back more than 100 years, though the group has disbanded and reformed since it was established in 1909.

Alan, who has been involved with the scouts since 1964, adds: “We have always tried to work closely with the community and organise activities that are beneficial to other members of the local society, working alongside retirement homes, teaching first aid and other skills, but also encouraging the children to have fun and get involved in climbing, walking and canoeing.

“Taylor Wimpey’s sponsorship will be a big help for developing our headquarters and funding some of the equipment required to take part in these events, especially our monthly camping trips as the tents often take a battering and need replacing!”

The group currently has 50 members aged from five to 18 in their beavers, cubs, scouts and explorer scouts divisions.

Elaine Taylor, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West Midlands, says: “We are pleased to be able to offer this sponsorship to such a dedicated club and to be able to help fund some of the essential gear that will allow them to continue enjoying their activities.

“We hope the scouts really enjoy their new equipment and we wish them the best of luck with their fundraising event!”

The 1st Redditch Scouts fundraising event will be taking place this Friday at the scouts’ headquarters located at the Scout Hut, Harris Close, Greenlands, Redditch, B98 7PP and starting from 6pm.

There’s a stunning selection of three and four-bedroom homes currently on sale at Clover Park.
