A fundraising appeal to restore the ancient Evesham Abbey Bell Tower has taken a creative turn after local artist Kitty Kovacevic decided to get involved by selling canvas prints she has produced of the local landmark.
Kitty recently moved into a brand new Taylor Wimpey home at The Orchards development in Evesham and when Sales Executives Sue and Sally heard about her artwork, they decided to buy one of the prints to display in the sales office.
Kitty says: “I have always lived in the area and I read about the bell tower appeal in the local paper, the Evesham Journal. I had been doing a lot of artwork based on architecture and I was putting together an exhibition about Evesham, which included some work on the bell tower.
“I realised this could help the appeal. I donated one of the pictures to a charity auction and I’ve been selling canvas prints, with 20% of the proceeds going to the appeal fund.
“I moved into my new house at The Orchards and when Sue and Sally in the sales office saw an article in the Journal about my art, they decided to buy one of the prints to display in the office. The reaction I’ve had has been fantastic and I’m really pleased to be lending my support.”
The Evesham Bell Tower Appeal was launched a year ago to raise the £500,000 required to carry out essential maintenance works to the Grade I-listed bell tower, built in 1530, which requires significant repairs to the stonework.
So far, nearly £450,000 has been raised, leaving just over £55,000 to go. Taylor Wimpey Midlands has also backed the appeal by sponsoring a charity concert to boost the fund. If the fundraising appeal is successful, it is hoped that the maintenance work on the bell tower will begin in February 2015.
Elaine Taylor, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, says: “The Evesham Bell Tower is a much-loved local landmark and we have been delighted to lend our support to the community’s fundraising efforts.
“When we heard that Kitty, one of our homebuyers, was offering prints of her work based on the bell tower, we just had to have one to display in the sales office at The Orchards.”
