Youngsters at Long Ashton Junior Football Club in the village of Long Ashton, Somerset, have scored a hat-trick of a different kind thanks to a generous sponsorship deal with us.

Our Bristol business unit has donated £500 to the club for the third consecutive year to help fund new kits for the U12s team and pay for some important training equipment.

The 18 players in the U12s team are now sporting brand new green kits adorned with the Taylor Wimpey logo – the first strip to match the official club colour!

Philip Downey, assistant coach of the U12s team and treasurer of the club, says: “Taylor Wimpey has kindly donated £500 to us for three years running.

“This sponsorship makes a big difference to the club, because we are able to keep our subscription rates low so we can be accessible to more people in the local community, which helps attract more players.”

The club, which has been running for more than 20 years, has over 160 girls and boys playing in eight teams ranging from U6 to U16s.

“Each player will go through about four kits during their time at the club, so we’re really grateful that Taylor Wimpey has sponsored the U12s team for two years,” says Philip. “Before this, each team supplied their own kits which meant there was variation between players, so this is the start of every team being the same.

“The U12s are now at the forefront of the club – they’re thrilled with the kits and they wear them with pride. The sponsorship has also helped us buy some much-needed training equipment, including bibs, balls and training goals, and helped pay for the hire of the pitch.

“The club is run entirely on volunteers, so sponsorship like this is extremely important as it helps to keep our costs low. If we didn’t have this support then parents would have to pay more and that would put some people off.”

Long Ashton Juniors are currently based at Peel Park, an area of land named after a local war hero. Before the land could be used we carried out much-needed development work to make it a facility that the entire community could benefit from.

Philip continues: “The U12s are our star team – they’re currently cup finalists in the Woodspring League, playing against other teams throughout north Somerset at the top of the first division.

“They’re competing in the league until Easter, after which they will be playing in various tournaments throughout the summer.

“We are enormously grateful for the support that Taylor Wimpey has provided, which has also allowed us to play in the heart of the village at Peel Park.”

Charlie Joseph, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Bristol, says: “We’re delighted to sponsor Long Ashton Junior Football Club for the third year in a row.

“The club is an integral part of the local area and we feel it’s extremely important to offer our support and help them continue to be at the centre of the Long Ashton community.

“We hope the team really enjoy their new kit and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
