We gave our support to St David’s Hospice Care by sponsoring the second annual Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon.

The fundraising event took place on Sunday 2nd March in aid of St David’s Hospice Care, which provides free care for people with life-limiting illnesses.

The 13.1-mile route passed by our new Lysaght Village development and, as a sponsor, we gave every runner who crossed the finish line a goodie bag filled with gifts from fellow corporate sponsors.

Christine Vorrés, Race Director for St David’s Hospice Care, says: “Last year was our first City of Newport Half Marathon and it was a great success, with just under 1,000 runners taking part. We expected it to attract mainly club runners but we were surprised to see that around two-thirds were unaffiliated runners who took part to raise money for charity.

“This year we had 1,300 people sign up and there were entertainers on the river front and a children’s play area for the little ones. It was a fantastic event and we are incredibly grateful to our sponsors including Taylor Wimpey for their support.

“We’re now looking to make this the annual flagship event for St David’s Hospice Care. Last year the half marathon raised £55,000 for us and we expect to beat that total this year. The response from the people of Newport has been absolutely phenomenal.”

Sara Taylor, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “The City of Newport Half Marathon is becoming one of the most popular events in the city’s calendar and we are delighted to have lent our support by becoming one of the main event sponsors.

“St David’s Hospice Care is a wonderful local charity which is supported by so many people in the Newport area, so it was an honour for Taylor Wimpey be involved with such a worthwhile event.”
