The newly established Athena Netball Club based in Kingsway Village, Gloucestershire, has received a helping hand from our team at Taylor Wimpey Bristol to support its rapidly growing popularity.

With our Kings Copse development situated in nearby Quedgeley, we donated £250 to the club to help its members become affiliated with the All England Netball Association – the national governing body for the sport.

The club was established at the start of June this year by a group of ladies already playing the sport in the local area.

Emma Allen, chair of Athena Netball Club, says: “We set up the club as part of our own campaign to empower people and get them more involved in playing sport – which ties in really well with the 2016 Olympics which took place in August.

“The club, which was formed only a matter of months ago, already consists of 25 ladies, so we’ve gathered momentum quickly and our next step is to become a member of the All England Netball Association, which is an organisation covering all aspects of the sport, from grassroots clubs to athletes.

“We’re all volunteers and play netball as a hobby, so we’re very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for this donation and once everything is up and running we’ll be naming them as one of our sponsors on our social media and website as a thank you.

“We went to Taylor Wimpey to ask if they’d like to sponsor us, as they are a local business that we feel has a connection to the local area. On behalf of everyone at the club I’d like to say thank you, we’re all really grateful.

“This donation will help us become affiliated with the All England Netball Association and allow us to compete in the official league and go through the various ratings.
“We’re currently competing in the summer season, which runs from May to October, and then the winter season will commence in October and continue until April.

“We’re competing in the Gloucester County Netball Association league, so we’ll be playing against other teams in the surrounding area.”

Charlie Joseph, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Bristol, says: “We’re delighted to offer our support to Athena Netball Club and help this fantastic new sports club become an established part of the local community.

“We wish the club the best of luck for the rest of their season!”

There’s a choice of stylish two, three, four and five-bedroom houses on sale at Kings Copse.
