The first event held by a new Women’s Institute group in Wixams, Bedfordshire, was given a boost with a donation from Taylor Wimpey.
We donated a luxury hamper to be used as a raffle prize by the Wixams WI group at a quiz night it held in January.
Wixams WI was set up in October 2013. It is open to all women aged over 18 years and the group aims to attract women of all ages, with current members ranging in age from 25 to 65 years.
Rachel Moss, President of Wixams WI, says: “The quiz night was our first event and was very successful. The money raised will help us to cover the cost of bringing in some interesting speakers for our future meetings.
“I’d like to thank Taylor Wimpey for the donation of the hamper, which really helped to drum up a lot of interest in the raffle.”
Steve Rolt, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build, so we were only too pleased to offer our support to the new WI in Wixams by donating the hamper.
“Wixams is an exciting new community and it’s fantastic to see residents getting to know each other and setting up new community groups such as the WI.”
In the group’s first few months, members of Wixams WI have welcomed various speakers to their meetings and have taken part in a number of practical sessions, including making festive wreaths and learning how to create the 1940s ‘victory roll’ hairstyle.
Wixams is a new community which includes our Westlow Abbey and Heritage Park developments.
Wixams WI meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 7.30pm at Lakeview Village Hall, Wixams. For more information on the group search ‘Wixams WI – Lakeview Ladies on Facebook.
