Our East Midlands region supports champion brass band

NEWS - TWEM - Band donation


As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and organisations, our East Midlands regional team is proud to have recently donated £500 to world renowned Desford Colliery Band. The funding will go towards the team’s trip to London where they competed at the Royal Albert Hall in the National Brass Band Championships on 6th of October.


First established in 1898, Desford Colliery Band have a long history of producing superb music and in 2002 starred in their own TV show ‘The Real Brassed Off’. Off screen, the band have travelled all over the world including Dubai, Vietnam, Thailand, Russia and Japan. The band, ranked in the top 20 worldwide, have also recorded several CDs with success, and have just recorded an album to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One. With no less than thirty championship titles, including fifteen Midlands Regional Championship wins and four National Championship wins, the band are looking to continue their incredibly high standard.  


Peter Smith, Chairman of Desford Colliery Band, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for Taylor Wimpey’s support and the funds are being put to excellent use. The band are all practising at every chance they get to hone their already impressive talents and this donation has spurred us on further. We’re all so excited to go to the National Championships in London and we will do our very best to bring the trophy back to Coalville with us. On behalf of Desford Colliery Band, I’d like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey for their generous donation.”
