Our South Wales team recruits 14 apprentices at Cowbridge development

Date: Tuesday 14 January 2020

Our South Wales team has recruited 14 new apprentices at its Clare Garden Village development in Cowbridge. The apprentices will specialise in brickwork and will continue to work with us on completion of their apprenticeship.

Having all been selected following an intense week-long assessment process, the 14 apprentices are either local to Cowbridge or are from the surrounding areas such as, Barry, Pencoed and Bridgend. We provided the apprentices with the necessary clothing and tools to allow training at its bespoke on-site training facility, which will allow the apprentices to develop their practical skills in all weather.

The apprentices will also carry out the academic element of their work on-site. Geason Apprenticeships has organised for trainers to visit our Clare Garden Village development where there is a dedicated classroom for the apprentices. Once the courses are complete, the apprentices will be offered jobs with us as directly employed bricklayers.

Huw Evans, our Production Director for South Wales said: “We are delighted to welcome these 14 apprentices into the Taylor Wimpey team. They’ve worked really hard to get to this point and each of them fully deserves this opportunity. I’d like to say a huge congratulations to each apprentice and I am excited to see the work they produce.”

Sara Taylor, our Sales and Marketing Director for South Wales, added: “We’re always

proud to offer more opportunities to young people looking to begin their careers. Our apprenticeships are designed to give the right balance between classroom learning and hands-on experience, ensuring our trainees are best placed to be offered a permanent opportunity after their studies.”
