Pupils from Broadheath CofE Primary School in Lower Broadheath, Worcestershire, experienced a behind-the-scenes look at how brand new homes are constructed during a special guided tour hosted by our Midlands team.

Youngsters from Years 5 and 6 were invited to visit our Scarlet Pippin Orchard development, situated just down the road from the school, to see first-hand how the construction industry works.

The group of 22 pupils, along with Year 6 teacher Kerry Tinsdale and three parents, were met by Site Manager Tom Hardeman and Senior Site Manager Bob Flanagan, who showed them around the ‘Heydon’ showhome and the first-fix demo home.

Kerry says: “Taylor Wimpey kindly got in touch with the school and invited us to visit the development on Friday 29th January.

“When we arrived the children were split into two groups to visit the showhome and look around the first-fix demo home.

“The demo home allowed the pupils to understand how a house is put together – they were able to see the plaster and the brickwork and it got them asking lots of questions. It was really interesting – even I’d never seen a half-built house before.

“Tom and Bob were really helpful and knowledgeable so the trip was really beneficial for our pupils. Some of the parents that were there also work in the construction industry and were interested to talk about it.

“It was really great because after we visited Scarlet Pippin Orchard the team at Taylor Wimpey sent us some plans of the houses, and we have been able to incorporate these into our maths lessons.

“The pupils have been working out the perimeter and the area of the properties and making plans for a house they’d like to build – so the trip has really helped with their learning and it was very interesting.”

Anne Wallace, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build, so we were only too pleased to welcome pupils from Broadheath CofE Primary School to our nearby Scarlet Pippin Orchard development.

“We’re delighted to hear that the pupils enjoyed their visit to site and that we’ve been able to support their learning.”

There’s a superb selection of three and four-bedroom homes currently available at Scarlet Pippin Orchard.
