We have provided a cash boost to help local children attend special masterclasses at an independent school in High Wycombe.
Our West London business unit, which is currently building high-quality homes at our Pine Trees development on the outskirts of the Buckinghamshire town, has donated £750 to fund coaches to transport Year 7 and 8 pupils from St Peter’s C of E Middle School in the village of Old Windsor to attend the masterclasses at Wycombe Abbey, a boarding school for girls which neighbours the development.
Sue Jones, head of science and director of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at Wycombe Abbey, explains: “We are associated with St Peter’s C of E School and last year we invited its pupils to attend science masterclasses at Wycombe Abbey.
“The sessions took place during our exam week and were run entirely by our science department. Our teaching staff carried out new and exciting practical experiments and did demonstrations to assist the pupils with their learning.
“This year we’ve decided to host the masterclasses once again in May.”
Last year the pupils were transported to Wycombe Abbey with support from The Ogden Trust – a charity which promotes the teaching and learning of physics – and this year our donation will cover the transport costs so pupils can once again travel to Wycombe Abbey.
Sue continues: “The pupils enjoyed the sessions so much last year and found it extremely beneficial for their learning, so we’re very excited to host more. Taylor Wimpey’s donation will be used to fund coaches to transport all of the Year 7 and 8 pupils to and from Wycombe Abbey, which is 20 miles away from their school.
“The masterclasses will help to develop and build on what the pupils have been learning and provide an opportunity to take part in some fun challenges and use new apparatus – plus it’s a great day out for them.
“We’re very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for this donation – it’s really helped make this happen and we’d like it to become an annual occurrence. It’s very important to us that we promote opportunities in this field and make pupils more aware of what possibilities are available to them in their futures.”
Emma Jones, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West London, says: “We’re delighted to lend our support to Wycombe Abbey and St Peter’s C of E Middle School, which are both working very hard to develop the pupils’ learning.
“It’s fantastic to offer our support and give back to the communities where we build our new homes. We hope all of the Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoy taking part in the science masterclasses!”
There’s currently a superb selection of four and five‑bedroom homes available at Pine Trees.
