Creative children from a primary school in Wixams, Bedford, have declared their love for their home town in an art competition.

We invited Year 3 and 4 pupils at Lakeview School to sing the praises of the community using their artist skills. Youngsters taking part in the ‘What Wixams Means to Me’ contest were encouraged to design a piece of art to express how they feel about their home, with the winning entries having the honour of being displayed in our Heritage Park Sales Centre.

The competition was announced in an assembly and the children then went on a walk around the area to look at the different types of houses, the greenery and the various facilities in the village for inspiration.

Headteacher Susan Vint says: “The art competition has been very helpful because it has made the children think about the community they live in.

“The pupils have been quite involved with Heritage Park as they have seen the village grow around them – a lot of them actually live in Taylor Wimpey homes.”

An entry by Joanna Lewandowska (8) secured first prize, while Maryam Malik (8) and Lucy Little (9) came second and third respectively. Joanna was presented with a £40 Hobbycraft voucher during the school’s celebration assembly, while Maryam won a £30 voucher and Lucy a £20 voucher.

Susan adds: “I’d like to say thank you to Taylor Wimpey for encouraging the children to think about the village in which they live. It’s good for them to see that a large company like Taylor Wimpey is listening to them and taking an interest in their work.”

Steve Rolt, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Midlands, says: “We already know that Wixams is a fantastic place to live, but the pupils from Lakeview School have really opened our eyes to even more things which make it such a great area.

“We were so impressed with all the competition entries that it was a very hard task to select just three top entries. I’d like to congratulate everyone who took part for their efforts.”

Heritage Park currently offers a selection of three and four-bedroom homes.
