Great Wakering Primary School in Great Wakering, Essex, has received a helping hand from our East London business unit towards funding the refurbishment of its on-site swimming pool.
We donated £5,000 to the school after offering to match the fundraising efforts of its PTA group, who have been helping to cover the costs of the renovation work.
Hayley O’Dea, head teacher at Great Wakering Primary School, says: “Our PTA group has been raising money for the school for around five years, so when we realised that the swimming pool was becoming an issue and we wouldn’t be able to use it this summer, they pledged their existing funds towards renovating it.
“They have been carrying out various activities and managed to raise a total of £5,000 for the project, which Taylor Wimpey has kindly offered to match!”
The PTA group has been hosting cake stalls, fairs and fun activities during the holidays to help raise money for the refurbishment.
“The swimming pool requires quite a lot of improvements,” continues Hayley. “These include new lining on the inside, replacing tiling and coping around the pool, and a new pool cover plus there’s the cost involved with emptying the water and refilling it again as well as general repairs and renovations within the pool compound.
“The pupils were really disappointed that the pool wouldn’t be opening, so we’re hoping to start the work as soon as possible, hopefully within the next couple of weeks so there’s potential to offer some swimming this year.”
We are currently building high-quality new homes at our Wyborne Park development in Great Wakering and we offered to support the school after a parent appealed to us for support.
Hayley adds: “I contacted parents to explain that we would need to use the local swimming pool instead until the work is done, and one of them asked me if they could approach Taylor Wimpey on our behalf to see if they can help, as they supported the school in the past when they donated £250 for World Book Day in February.
“They were really quick to get back to us and we’re so thrilled to receive their support – it’s made such a difference to us as we can now go ahead and begin the renovation work, so a large project that would have taken us a long time is now happening a lot quicker.”
Michael O’Leary, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East London, says: “We feel it’s extremely important to support the communities in which we build our new homes, and what better cause than to invest in local schools and help improve facilities for pupils.
“The Great Wakering Primary School PTA has been doing a fantastic job of raising money for the new swimming pool, so we’re delighted to lend our support and we hope the pupils will enjoy using the pool once it’s reopened!”
Wyborne Park currently offers a selection of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties.
