Students of Arden Academy in Knowle received a helping hand from our Midlands business unit towards making this year’s production of ‘Into the Woods’ a big success.
We donated £1,000 to the school to help cover the cost of the set design and props for their four-night performance of Stephen Sondheim’s musical adaptation, which took place earlier this month.
Sarah Lewsey, Assistant Principal at Arden Academy, says: “The school puts on a big production every year with students of all ages taking part in the performance. We usually have around 200 students take part.
“Last year we put on a performance of ‘The Sound Of Music’ – which included a sell-out show at the ICC to a crowd of 1,500 people – which is an incredible achievement for the students.”
The money donated by Taylor Wimpey Midlands was used to help the students create their perfect set while allowing them to explore special effects and pyrotechnics to help the production come to life.
Sarah continues: “The students’ participation is usually limited to performing in the show, but this year, thanks to the sponsorship from Taylor Wimpey, we had a team who created and designed the entire set. They were very creative and had lots of excellent ideas which included the use of explosions and a fairytale design which evolved throughout the play as the storyline unfolded.
“Allowing the students to design the set themselves gave them the freedom to be really creative while giving the performance a full professional feel.”
Anne Wallace, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we were delighted to help fund Arden Academy’s production of ‘Into the Woods’.
“We hope the students all enjoyed taking part in the performance!”
