We showed our support for a charity which provides care for children with special needs by donating a fantastic raffle prize for its Grand Summer Ball.
Stepping Stones Learn and Play Group, which is based in Colchester, Essex, has to raise £150,000 each year to fund its work and its summer ball, which this year was held on Friday 26th June – its biggest single fundraising event.
Our team at Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, which is building new homes at developments across the region, donated a home cinema system worth nearly £200 to the raffle to help the charity’s fundraising efforts.
Carol Nice, Stepping Stones Group Co-ordinator, says: “We set up 24 years ago as a charity offering continuity of care for children with special needs and respite for their parents. The group has grown as parents have identified needs within the community.
“We started off with an inclusive playgroup and then moved to full school day sessions. Then parents started to say they would like to meet earlier, as straight after diagnosis can be a very isolating time, so we started a tots group.
“We also now run an after-school club, which can give parents the chance to enjoy activities with their other children, for example, and we offer respite through the holidays.
“We have to raise £150,000 a year to keep ourselves going. There is little funding available for children under three so support from companies such as Taylor Wimpey is tremendous. Not only does it add to our funds, it also raises our profile as we are only a small charity.”
Caroline Carter, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, which is why we were only too pleased to support Stepping Stones Learn and Play Group.
“We’d like to wish the group the very best of luck with all of their fundraising efforts, and hope they raise a significant amount to help continue the fantastic work they do.”
